  • BtS bug that hasn't seen mentioned much

I have seen very few people mention the animation bug that I have run into since the last patch, so I figured I would ask about it in a separate thread.

Even in the early game(since I installed 3.03), I have noticed that combat animations for any "ranged unit" are bugged. An archer UNIT may end the combat at full health(all three archers showing), but during combat, one of the three might "die", only to show up again after a few seconds. The same thing can also happen to the unit the archer is fighting, where THEY look like they are being killed, but then one shows up again.

Yes, you can turn off the animations, but since there is so little mention of it on the forums out there, I am wondering if anything has been said about it that I missed.

I've also experienced this. Also now I have no idea if I'm winning or losing a fight. Often all my guys will die save for one and then I'll come out victorious and barely damaged. The animations definitely do not match up to the actual combat now.

Yep, I am seeing this since the last patch as well.

Yep, it's really weird. Can't tell what's happening at all.

Ya, I've seen this... sometimes they die then for no reson then come back to life and fight again.

My only guess on this is that the animations are driven by several things, and the system for them has been broken by the latest patch. Since this only seems to affect ranged unit animations(archers, and I've heard that some gunpowder units also get it), I would guess that normally, in order for a "death" in the animation to happen, the unit has to drop below a certain health. What seems to happen is that ANY damage done will cause the "death", but there is also a synchronization mechanism that happens every few seconds, which explains why it "corrects itself".

I just want to make sure the issue is really known about, and with beta testers posting here, the issue will hopefully be reported back to Firaxis.

There are invisible units and running units. These include whole stscks, GP, spes and workers.

Also, there is a thread on gaphics poblems which cover all this same material

This isn't a problem with missing objects, but with the combat animations for "ranged" units. It is almost to be expected that an expansion will have some "graphics" problems for those with out of date drivers, or hardware that can't handle the demands placed on them. But if the combat animations show "deaths" that the flow of combat should not happen, that is a different problem than just not seeing items.

If you have any "fight", you will see the combat "acted out", with people being killed on either side. If people are being killed without having lost enough unit strength to warrant that particular animation, that is the bug I am talking about. I have the hardware to handle every animation this game might throw at it(Radeon HD 2900XT-512, dual core processor, 4 gigs of memory), and have no problems seeing what the game intends for me to see.

It's not only ranged units for me.

The problem is with graphics including "ranged" combat units as well as others. I have the "fighting" anomaly as well. These objects aren't missing but graphically invisible. My hardware is up to date, my software is up to date.

                      Screen shots forthcoming

The point is there are other unit animations and unit graphics affected by this 'bug'. As has been described elsewhere among other threads the trigger is the 3.03.1 patch. Also if you were to read the other threads, you would also notice a gamut of hardware , including the most up to date, being affected by this issue.

In order for those who have the capacity to address this issue it would be prudent to give them as many examples of similar symptoms as possible as well as other info like hardware.

This is a documented bug with the 3.03 BtS patch. It will presumably be fixed in the next patch.

I did the uninstal-reinstall, then patch to 3.02 with no change

Also, installed BtS on my desktop also patched to 3.02 with no change.

Would like to play the game instead of fight the program

Have heard nothing back from 2K except confirmation & thank you.
