That's not true at all. It's much better IMO to run your slider as you would otherwise, until you reach some tech level (which you predetermine), and then (and ONLY then) crank the culture slider.

Since the culture slider at 100% can give 1000+ culture/turn in each city, it should not be a significant amount of game time until you get your victory.

In addition, there are other ways to do a culture victory. One very powerful way is to run 3 GP farms, with multiple artists in each. Since you have farms (not cottages) in those 3 cities, cranking the culture slider does little to nothing. Meanwhile, your other cities in your empire can and DO have cottages and you can leave your research slider where it has been all game.

Add a Monastery and a Temple to a new city and it's can compete culturally with old, established cities, and overwhelm new ones. I always try to get it now.
Thanks! You know I never realized it changed in BtS This is something I almost always build when going for a cultural victory.

I would disagree. For most cities +5 culture is about as useful as +1 warrior. But with a decent sized empire, those +2 science/gold really add up.

Yeah, I don't think Sistine > Sankore or Minaret.

In border cities the culture is useful. In the core? Not so much.

A perfect world with religious buildings means Apostolic Palace benefits (whether you build it or not), Spiral Minaret, University of Sankore and Sistine Chapel.

            Each religious building then yields:
            +2 +2 +1 +5

            All three buildings therefore yields:
            +6 +6 +3 +15

            Not too shabby.

Could you define SE and CE? I am a bit confused, as I haven't run across these before that I can remember.

SE: Specialist Economy -- use lots of farms & specialists
CE: Cottage Economy -- fewer farms, fewer specialists, lots of cottages ... towns

There is one downside; this pretty much locks you into that state religion necesaiting wars against infidels for much of the game.

The +15 culture is pretty shabby.

While the culture provides an alternative but Drama is still the most efficient mid-game border popping method because

                      a) theatres are cheaper
                      b) they allow you to appoint artists.

Caste System is probably just as efficient although might not be your preferred civic.

Sistine chapel’s real cultural bonus is still the +2/specialist that allows for the instant border pops for well-developed captured cities.

Just to nitpick but wouldn't having all three buildings generate 22.5 culture due to the 50%.

Should be 27 if the building culture is included
                          And 16.5 after Sci Method.
