I normally save with the QuickSave. I have a shortcut of that on my desktop also, and is what I use to start the game in the morning.

Normal saves I use only for descriptive/critical points in the game.
This "shortcut" nomenclature is so difficult for me -- I want to type "alias" (I am afterall, posting this on my Mac).

I'd like to have "Show friendly within 3 tiles of your borders" and "Show enemy within 3 tiles of your borders".

It used to be annoying, with religious LOS (line of sight) into other cities, to have to sit and watch all the AI workers, caravels, etc etc dink around all over. Now it's even worse with the espionage LOS.

I mean, it's almost critical to have the "show friendly" turned on, because you can then see when the AI is moving stacks around.

How about "Show friendly moves, if the leader is less than friendly"?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

As long as there are some criteria for "less than friendly". e.g., moving more than 3 combat units.

I agree. Without "show enemy moves" you get easily surprised "Wow, when did that SoD get right next to my capital?", but with it on the turn time will be 10x as long as normal, as you now have to watch the enemy move each galleon one by one half around the globe
This space is empty... or is it?

Yes I agree, even with Quick Moves on, enemy movement phase can take a while in the first decade or so of the war. After that it can be considerably reduced because either he's dug in or you've atomised half his army.

With less army he therefore he doesn't have much left to move.

I would really like to see the option to have a start (or end) of turn 'empire report' in which you would see a list of the important events that have happened (or are about to happen) throughout your empire, and across the world.

If each entry in the report were an active link that would take you to the location of the event or the appropriate city screen/advisor screen this would significantly reduce the burden of having to remember to check for such occurences. In fact, where appropriate, each line might also have an 'ignore' button or even a 'delegate' button, which you could use to tell the city governor or science advisor etc. to handle the matter themselves - not permanently, just until the next similar event.

It could include changes in city state, research completion, building/unit completion, available trades, etc, etc, even warnings about barbarian or foreign troop movements near my borders.

In short, if I were running an empire exactly the sort of high level summary I would expect from my cabinet so I could make informed decisions.
                I think therefore I CIV

A save game is a user file, so he disagrees with you.

                        1. When a city is about to grow beyond either its health or happiness cap, i´d like to see a pop-up after hitting "end turn" asking me, if thats allright with me and offering me to open the city-screen and adjust before the turn actually ends.
There's a mod on (here? Definitely at Civfanatics) called Civ4lerts, which purports to have a whole series of options for warning, exactly like this. Check it out. Although the times I tried to get it working it didn't seem to (maybe I was doing something wrong or just too lazy to find all the documentation telling me what to do), it sounds exactly like what you want. It definitely was for Warlords, not sure about a BtS version yet.

Thanks ! No offense, but it´s funny how you struggle for its location, considering your name....

                              So I've got:

                              /ALTROOT="J:\Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword" [/QUOTE

I think you don't actually need the full path. Altroot in my experience always uses a folder inside the (program files) game folder to store things in.
