  • Nicknames for Civ Leaders

On the boards, there seem to be a number of nicknames that are commonly used as shorthand, or derisively, for the various Civ Leaders.

Monty for Montezuma, for example. Or Izzy for Isabella.

I personally have labeled Charlemagne in BTS as "Chuck", and I call Gilgamesh "Gilgey".

What ones do YOU like to use?

If I listed the nicknames I use for Shaka, Montezuma and Genghis, I don't think I'd be allowed to post here anymore.

Also, Huayna Capac always becomes "The Incan" because I'm uncivilized and can't pronounce it properly.

That's why I refer to him as Tupac- I can never remember his proper name.

              And Boudica is definitely Booty.

I've been calling Charlemagne "Big Chuck," Gilgamesh "Giggly Puff," and Suryavarman is "That Alien Guy"

Can't quite remember what I use for Wang Kon...

IIRC, it's pronounced "Why-nah Kah-pah-kuh," with the last syllable sort of truncated in the mouth. I could be wrong.

Don't worry. There's a couple of mods in progress attempting to humanize our favorite baboon. With some different cheekbones and a mustache to hide that hideous upper lip, he might actually look like a person.

I use "Big Chuck" too. One of my old professors made fun of how that's basically what "Charlemagne" means anyway. For Gilgamesh, I say "Giggle Smash." For Pericles, I simply mispronounce his name so that it rhymes with "icicles," so "perri-culls." And I pronounce Saladin "Salakha-din" (where the kh represents a throaty sound) on occasion. Ooh, and Louis XIV is "Loogie the Sun-King."
                    Pure unadulterated fun.

By the way, does anybody know exactly how to pronounce Suryavarman? Is it "Surie-ah-var-man" or is it "Sur-yah-var-man?"

                      it's Sir-yu-ra-wird-man.

monty (that's a nick in of itself) i often refer to as "#¤&¤ing featherhead" when talking/swearing to myself. got it from some post here and it just stuck (featherhead, not the talking to self, that's just me). i hate that featherhead, with a vengeance.

except for that i rarely use nicknames, except when posting of course, but lets make a list shall we?
Vicky and Liz for England. Winnie if in a childish mood.

a lot of leaders have first names that are perfectly usable, like otto, abe,

                      saladin - sally
ragnar - ragz (or just ragg)
alex (or just al, could use allie, but he might take offence, and we dont want that)

and so on and so forth...

It's funny, I always took for granted that monty referred to general Montgomery and was slightly surprised I never saw this warmonger at all in any of my games. Did not put 2 and 2 together at all it seems.

                        And I'm not even British!

                          A couple of common ones:

                          Lizzy: Elizabeth
                          Izzy: Isabella

                          Okay a humorous one?
                          What rhymes with Pericles?
