  • Warlords Questions

I've finally updated to Warlords and have a couple of questions.

Whenever I suffer angry citizens, they always abandon prime food resources first. Normal citizens also abandon food resources and become specialists. As a result, war weary cities going into meltdown. Every turn I'm forced to go into every city and reassign my citizens so the cities don't starve. It is micromanagment HELL - certainly not a problem I suffered with vanilla. I don't have the governor switched on. I don't ever want the governor switched on. So why is the AI interfering with my citizens - assigning them as specialists when I don't want it to? I'm version 2.0 - do patches address this incredibly lame fault?

Also, sometimes when swordsmen attack cities, a tower that fires arrows appears. What is this?

Generally I'm finding it an excellent update. I think the AI is a bit tougher too. I always lose my great generals though...

That's because the AI is smarter than you are . You might as well let unhappy citizens starve, it's not like they're doing anything productive.

The only thing better than letting unhappy citizens starve is whipping them.

I would gladly starve the bums, but I need them.

One other question: can I go straight to patch 2.13 or do I have to install patch 2.08 first?

I tend to assign them directly and turn of the city governor. That way, it won't do any reassigning unless something unexpected happens. Of course, if you are at war, you need to make sure your citizens are not getting very unhappy so perhaps you should be checking the city manager screen more often.

The tower that appears with units does so when they attack a city. It's just graphics and does nothing.

As for the Great Generals. You shouldn't really be losing them and certainly not until you have built Heroic Epic and perhaps also West Point.

The starvation issue was a very annoying bug. It happened if the city couldn't produce enough food to feed itself. I think the theory was that if it's going to starve anyway then try and get as much out of that extra population while it's still there (?). It was idiotic because you may have been able to get additional health/happiness before it starved anyway. It got fixed in the latest patch.

To do what? they're unhappy, they don't do anything.

They are soon back at work when the war is over or if I change civics. I'm not going to have big pops eroded because of war weariness.

                  You mean a walled city.

It doesn't matter. Once you have a level 6 unit you'll be able to build both, whether they're alive at the time or not. I usually use my first Great General to ensure I can build West Point then turn all the rest into either specialists or Academies. I never have a Great General unit around when it comes time to build West point but I'm still able to build it anyway.

The tower graphic appears when attacking a city when the attacking unit has a city attack promotion. Don't listen to these here clowns who'd tell you otherwise.

Look who's the clown. The tower graphics represents siege equipment which is used whenever a city has a wall. You won't get them simply because a unit has city attack. Maybe instead of shooting your mouth off all the time, you should make sure you know what you're talking about first.

Wiglaf is correct as shown by this line in the Global defines:

                          "DefineName>MIN_CITY_ATTACK_MODIFIER_FOR_SIEGE_TOWER/DefineName>"

                          "iDefineIntVal>10/iDefineIntVal>"

                          So apologize and play nice!!

Hmmm. Is it just POSSIBLE that you need BOTH city-attack AND a wall??

Well it could be any combination of these and would still have no impact on the price of fish – 25 gold/turn the last time I asked Julius
