Harry dies because he gets hooked on BtS.

With the amount of stuff in BtS, I doubt there will be a third expansion, at least not one of similar quality. BtS is definitely the one to buy.

yin, you are good at simplifying things - how exactly corporations work? what do they do? what is their limit? cons?
spare a word for a fella who lives in a ****hole and has to wait for the copy (unlike some who read pulp instead of playing bts, dammit).

Actually, DrJambo just gave a good take here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...63#post4995963 Basically, unlike spreading a religion (which has no maintenance costs), spreading a corp fits a very specific need (which must be weighed against maintenance / inflation and start up costs).

DrJambo's examples show how you can easily make a "Great Person Factory" or take "backwater cities" and actually turn them to good use as decent production facilities, etc. But a player who just spams corps could easily find himself drowning in inflation wondering what the heck the corps are good for.

thanx yin. i also looked at civfanatics board and one guy did excel sheet on the whole thing. it seems that currently there are two issues on which a huge number of people is getting pissed off. one is water poisoning and another corporations.

with poisoning things get out of hand on the level of realism and on scaling (anything longer than normal game). while the second issue probably involves some number tweaking, the fact that you can bring a megalopolis down to size one strikes me as odd...if that is correct.

when it comes to corporations there are some things that, even if taken as correct complains, seem to be able to be rectified through numbers tweaking (inflation, cost of corporations etc.). on the other hand, certain aspects of mechanism (sucking commerce off foreigners) again strike as unrealistic - corporations actually increase wealth of the cities they spread to. i understand that the designers wanted to curb spamming of corporations domestically. still, it seems that they also curbed waging war against cities where your corporations have spread - once you capture it, it becomes domestic branch and kills your treasury.
not to start on sabotaging courthouses, etc...
solver, were any of these issues noticed and discussed while testing? are those game designs or unintended consequences?

I find the game with BTS has increased it's depth vastly and now it's become quite complex to manage every little nuance. It's going to take one heck of a time to master it.

Don't you just love it ?

Clearly he can't die on 578 or 435 because the book is 700ish pages long. He dies much much later.

But on page 435 he gets a vision of the future, showing how he's going to die

But it turns out it was just a dream any way, and Harry Potter is actually just Henry Pooter...some kid with no friends other than his pet rock, Morty.

Of course, that assumes that the increased complexity and managing of those nuances is something that a player wants. Which of course gets back to the topic of this thread.

So, its clear that someone who is very "beer and pretzels" in their approach to CIV will not like this expansion. (Which doesn't include me, but its good for those sorts of players to know this)

That reminds me of the plot of some fantasy novels, ruthlessly reinterpreting previous fantastic events as merely delusions or overactive imaginations.

To help play Devil's Advocate (I love BtS so far). I wouldn't buy BtS because I'm still not happy with diplomacy. It's still very hard to turn civs against each other or to just like me enough to give me some fair options. I'm tired of seeing nothing but red on my diplomacy screen even when talking with a friendly civ. One time I finally found a civ willing to go to war (meaning the option was in white), but when I asked him what he wanted to go to war, he said "We can't do that!" ARGH! Also I've never seen a civ willing to give you a city in the diplomacy screen. I don't mind that they don't want to do that, but my point is why even give it as an option if it'll never happen?

One more reason to not buy BtS, is still no Throne Room and the wonder movies still suck.
