Is is best to get the Great Spy asap, or after the Academy?

I noticed that you also get a message when a Great Spy is born. I would have thought that Great Spies born in other Civ's should be secret so you don't know when one is around. On a small map, you would have an indicator who it is. I am playing huge with 18 civs to see what happens and not having a clue who built him is one thing but not even knowing one was built is even more disconcerting I would think.

Actually feels like totally new game with the events and such. Looks like I will be at the PC a long time over the next month or so.

I'm curious as to which historical figures are going to be included in the Great Spy list.

Though it wouldn't half surprise me to see "James Bond (Great Spy) born in London (English)!"

How about Jack Ryan from the Tom Clancy books?

Okay, how about Mata Hari? And Patrick Henry? "I regret that I have but one mission at a time I can do for my country!"

I recognize most of these names but a few are unfamiliar.

BTW, it wasn't Patrick Henry who said that. It was Nathan Hale.

              Stauffenberg? Rosenbergs?

Well, of course, history's most succesfull spies are naturally not known...

Should have put Ian Fleming there, I think he was a spy...

While many of the best spies may remain forever unknown, Stauffenberg and Rosenberg are names now known to history. (I admit I had to look up Stauffenberg, though.)

Claus and Berthold Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg were Germans involved in the July 20 Plot of 1944 to assassinate Hitler. Claus was a German colonel and actually placed the bomb which nearly killed Hitler. He was betrayed by a co-conspirator and executed the next day by firing squad. Berthold was a lawyer and was executed about a month later by slow strangulation.

The Rosenbergs were American Communists who were convicted in 1951 of giving US atomic weapons secrets to the Soviet Union and executed in 1953. Their trial contributed to the "Communist-hysteria" of the time and the McCarthy "witch-hunt". They are the only known American executions for espionage. Modern evidence leaves little doubt as to Julius' guilt, but there is still some dispute over the extent of Ethel's involvement.

Only thing that ticks me off with an early Great Spy from building the Great Wall is the freaken Scotland Yard skyscraper towering over my village of huts and dirt.....

They ought to make a later tech a prereq for that, or else give it ancient and modern skins.

They should make the early era Scottland Yard model looking like a tavern or something.

No idea how Qin Wuyang got on the list....

He was the assassin companying Jin Ke, the famous Chinese assassin who made a failed attempt at Qin Shi Huang. Wuyang got nervous when Jin Ke and him presented themselves as envies at Qin's court. He didn't even get close to the emporer.

Hattori Hanzo is probably my favorite from that list. Well, second favorite anyway.
