So, if you are England on Earth map, and conquer half of the Europe, you are in trouble.

    Right?

    • Well, yeah. In that case, it would probably be a good idea to move your Palace to somewhere in Europe, it should decrease your expenses dramatically.

      • Does anyone by any chance have info on getting the warlords_213 patch for direct2drive? I just reinstalled warlords last night after a 3 month playing break, and want to pwn some noobs MP style, but I can't install the patch
I guess I probably just have to be patient and wait for D2D to release their "patched patch" and I have contacted them already but still waiting a reply, when I try to install the warlords 213 patch I get the error: 'No version of warlods is installed" any help would be great, cheers,

        Lyndon.

        • Solver: How does the "colony" maintenance affecting every single little island not break the game on archipelago-type maps?

          • Many islands on Archipelago-style maps are absolutely tiny, and you can only fit one city in. In these situations, colony maintenance doesn't even kick in. And as I said, for islands where you can only fit two cities, colony maintenance will kick in, but it will be extremely small.

Colonizing islands isn't really made much harder by colony maintenance, it's full continents that are really affected.

            • Are navies more relevant?

              • Solver,

How are you finding the speed settings? IIRC you used your own custom settings, do you still use that for BtS?

                Comment

                • On water maps, definitely, because of blockades mostly. Being blockaded hurts your coastal cities a lot, and if you do not have an adequate navy yourself, you can't end the blockade.

I only use custom settings when not testing the game. For BtS, I played on the built-in speeds, Epic most of the time. I like the game speed of BtS somewhat more than previously, and I am particularly fond of No Tech Brokering, which slows the pace down some.

                    • Thanks for the info on corporations. I'm still hoping somebody answers my questions on colonies. In the meantime, I have another question. Did trade routes make it into BTS? If so, how do they work? There was lots of speculation, but no definites.

                      • There are no on-map trade routes, but there are blockades. There's some mention of that in my review

                          • If you make a colony and then you conquer some more cities, can you gift the cities to the colonies or do you have to make a new one.

                            • I believe you can gift them in the same way you could always gift a city to another civ, but not through any other method.
