The Seal is a great UU for some fun late-game action... quick naval invasions can be a huge surprise to your opponent.
I can understand some late game UU's so that people who play a game on say an industrial or modern era start still have some UU's in play but if that's the reasoning shouldn't there be more of them?

not to mention how small of a squad of seals actually is

a uu should be a real unit. Although I don't think samurai were that numerous either... oh well. It's hard to get real military divisions in I suppose.

maybe something to represesnt ww2 infantry or marines. In fact, I think the U.S. unit should be an upgraded marine unit. As I think that's what we are most famous for is our marine corps. Yeah I know a seal basically is a marine. but they should change the name.

an I think a compensation to late game uu's and ub's should be they are more powerful bonus than early game uu's and ub's to their counterpart.

Leave the early units to the early civs, not a civ that technicly only has <300 years history.

I'd say if you are going to replace the American UU make it a different late game UU. Something like NLOS cannon (artilary), or F-22 Raptor (jet), or even the Comanche (helicopter).

The seal is not a bad unit however if you survive to see it.
I agree completely, although the UU could just as easily have been a late game fighter, bomber, or aircraft carrier.

Thats what the SEAL is. I don't know that the US is most famous for Marines though, I think our air force would be bigger. B-52, B-2, F-16, F-18, F-22, all great planes the US has used from WW2 or later and our air forces tend to be relied on far more than ground troops because it results in less casualties. I can see not using an air based UU though since it didn't work well in civ 3 (plus some of the standard air units are based on our air force already).

An infantry unit would work well though if you went with a WW2 era unit. I think the real problem with SEALs is that unless I use them (and marines) wrong, they're too much of a specialist unit rather than something that can compose the main forces of an army like most UU's can.

Will the SEAL unit get paratroop abilities in BTS? It should because SEAL stands for SEa, Air, Land.
I think they shouldn't as a replacement of marines. However you could make them replace the new paratrooper unit.

I don't really have a problem with the seals being the US unique unit. Though, if I was being picky or if the game designers wanted to be more historically accurate, a replacement bomber or fighter (stealth or otherwise) would be better. The US has the best machinery behind them but there are better trained troops around than seals.

That said, I think the seal works better for the game.

To those not liking the late American UU (or UB) I perfer to think of the Americans as having such a powerful civ & leader combos that just for balance their UU & UB must be the last of all.

i'd say some kind of air force. that's how we trash everyone we don't like. maybe B-17 for bomber? Or B-1 stealth?
