Actually, you could shut off the throne room in Civ2:

    Game>Graphic Options> (untick "Throne Room")

That was something I never found. I guess maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

Then I guess it didn't annoy you that much. As I recall, the manual covered how to disable the throne room and other similar features, like wonder movies. But because Willem doesn't like a (removable) feature none of the rest of us should have it.

The palace of civ1 was kewl because the leaders of other civs appeared in front of their palace, so you could see how much their people loved them.

I never really cared for that reason for the civ2 throne room. After I had finished it once or twice, I turned it of anyway.
I'm glad that Firaxis is focussing on game playing elements, rather then the throne room.

I agree with CS. I loved the Civ1 palace, but Civ2's throne room very just uninspiring.

I agree that the palace is better then the throne room. I also agree that Civ IV wonder movies suck. If you've seen one, you've seen them all and even that one has less novelty then watching grass grow. I'd love to see a return to Civ 2 style wonder movies and Civ 2 advisors. For those who can't understand why anyone would play Civ 2 anymore, maybe that's the reason. IMHO, it's one of the coolest features I'd ever seen in a game. And while we're talking about Civ features that are no longer used, I prefer Civ III artillery. I love the idea of overunning an enemy position and using his/her own weapons against him/her. If these features were back in Civ IV, it'd be as close to perfect. Of course I wouldn't mind the occasional new feature through expansion packs though (i'm excited about Corporations in BtS).

Seeing how this game is very 'modable'; why don't some of you who miss it figure out a way to create one and then make it availabel for every one else.

And then when people complaign that your creation sucks, you could come back to this thread and defend it!

Now THAT I would go for. It would provide the immersion factor and still add something useful to the game.

I would prefer a dungeon that becomes populated with the leaders of the civs I have overrun.

Now that's a cool idea Brutus. Maybe add a mini-game where you can torture your leader of choice. :P

I'd like something like in Civ1 where you saw a picture of the leader of the civ you just destroyed... much better than just see a small text that says "Civ x has been destroyed"
This space is empty... or is it?
