If there is a patch due, do you think any in the know could comment on it? I assure you, that would not be wise of them. Just look at Zoid's and my comments last year and how we were shut down.

Oh, good grief! Why must a patch be so secretive?
Maybe if a patch is confirmed then many people will then pressure the "confirmer" to put forth a date. I know the Dev's don't like to put dates on releases of patches...
You can't pressure anyone for a patch release date! Well, you can but it will not get you a date -- not even on the calendar!
Patch dates arrive AFTER the patch is completed and passed quality assurance, in other words just a couple weeks (or less) before release. Just look at the past history of civ patches.
In some cases, the work on new expansion packs also results in patches for the vanilla game and previous expansion packs. It's simple really, since if the game engine is improved, AI fixed, etc, many of those elements could be released for previous updates.
