If I could sell my product in a 1.5 billion person market, I'd do whatever it took.

BTW, what the hell does a urine tax have to do with this anyways?

The "Money doesn't smell" motto is entirely appropriate here, since the money gained from pampering to dictatorships doesn't smell of the oppression and historic revisionism...

And you seriously think it is the duty of a company to fight against dictatorship and oppression in China? Not even the governments and heads of state of the so called free world do that, so why would Firaxis (or Google, for that matter)?

This is really interesting. I wonder if Tang will be reused as one of the new leaders in BtS.

It brings the "One Man stopping 4 Tanks" special unit. Kind of a buffed up anti-tank spearman.

No, but you could at least expect some artistic integrity from the creators of this game. I would like to belive that Firaxis do what they do at least partly because the love of Civ and gaming. Not just to make a quick buck...

Let's say they do love Civ and gaming (which is a very fair assumption if you make it your profession). What would you do? Not offer it to 20% of the planet's population at all or offer a modified version? It's a lose-lose situation...

Also, the Chinese localisation wasn't made by Firaxis for the most part, it was made by a Chinese team hired by Take-Two (as you can see when reading the credits). Firaxis probably has little control over them...

PS Welcome to Apolyton, xiaojuzi! And thanks for your report, it's certainly a very interesting read...

Artistic integrity? There is a choice of offering this product or no product. I don't really see the point in some silly principled stand.

                              Skycinich is exactly right!

You shouldn't deny people Civ 4 just to make a point.

Artistic integrity? That would be a negative thing if it hampers sales or even puts them at an unnecessary risk. Trust me, all a company does and their shareholders demand is making money, and as long as it's within the law they don't give a damn if it smells or not. If you don't agree with that, just buy them out and dictate them your idealistic views.
