Please respond to THIS LETTER and tell us how you feel about the current state of affairs with your civilization experience

We suppose to respond in this thread or on that site?

I'm not going through the hastle of regestering to a site ill never visit again just to tell some guy that he is way too picky.

    I'll just respond here...

Most of the issues the author of that letter has with Civ4 are very minor details. They are also based primarily on his opinion of what would be more "correct".

His issue with writing before alphabet is simply evidence of his lack of knowledge when it comes to early written communication.

The first "writing" was based on a system of symbols to represent things (think oriental languages), as opposed to "alphabet" where symbols represent sounds to form words. So, in fact, alphabet did come after writing. Several modern languages still use no alphabet.

Last but not least, I really don't understand the authors whole use of the suffix "zord". Is this some sort of reference from a long forgotten text based RPG or something? Thundercats or some weird **** like that?

In my non-professional opinion, this letter is either some sort of poor joke, or it is written by a weird idiot with too much time on his hands.

And my apologies in advance if you Grampa Troll authored this.

    Just my 2 cents....

Personally, I'm almost entirely convinced it's intended as a humorous posting, not a genuine criticism of Civ4.

I think you are right Slover.... but the only reason I might doubt that is that it is so unfunny.

The Internet isn't particularly conductive to irony, however. Check the guy's other postings, however - they seem to support the idea that this letter is humorous.

I also took it tongue in cheek, totally unserious in nature

You would be surprized what some people complain about in complete seriousness.

I have actually seen some of the issues brought up in this letter honestly debated before (the writing/alphabet thing, the leaders, etc...)

The thread said respond... so i did. And if you were litterate Wiglaf you would have seen that one of my two conclusions was that it was a poor joke.

You never know though... lots of strange people on the net these days...

Folks, thats kinda why I Titled the thread as I did, in hopes of capturing the same humor in the letter by putting some absurd and ridiculous "offers" we often see

I reread the letter, with a fresh set of eyes, just to see if I truely have no sense of humor.

No.... the letter is just not funny. I can however see the attempt at humor.

                    PS: Wiglaf... go **** yourself.

PPS: The Nigerian money offer is not a rediculous scam!

It doesn't matter if it's not funny. I was calling you an idiot because you couldn't tell the letter is trying to be a joke.

Well, if it is not funny... then it initially does not regester as a joke to me.

I have however seen people argue such things in total seriousness before, so the possiblity that it was not a joke did exist.

Hense, my inital conclusion... either a dumb joke, or a weirdos musings on how to improve civ4.

Now crawl back in your hole Wiglaf.

Not funny, but at least it isn't too long.

I thought the parts involving the megazords and the list of American wonders were pretty funny. :3

Here’s what confuses me – how do you learn to write and then learn about the alphabet? I hate to break it to you, Sid, but writing without an alphabet? That’s drawing pictures. And I’ve never been able to draw pictures and call it a philosophy essay.
This has to be a comedy piece. Nobody could be this dumb.
