Poland has just been a bit of land belonging to another coutry for enough time that it hasn;t had a major effect on world developemnt IMO.
Of course, you don't have to play those leaders if you don't want to. It's just an option.

For a large part of the last millennia, Poland was a major power in the Baltic/Eastern Europe. Probably larger than Hapsburg controlled lands during the reign of Charles V.

The decline coincided with the rise of Prussia and Russia from the time when European settlers were consolidating their control on the east coast of North America. Now, can you enlighten me of the major effect that Brennus, Shaka, Mansa Musa, Montezuma, has made.

If we were to reduce the number of European civs, then America should be the first to go.

    • Too many people look at how things worked in world history, rather than looking at the potential that many civilizations had in the real world. Look at the different American Indian tribes as an example there. If they were not beaten down by forces from Europe, things could very well be different today. Look at the Zulu, who while not as technically advanced managed to do fairly well against their enemies, even if they eventually lost.

So, there are many civilizations that were essentially crushed by their neighbors who could have been a much bigger force if things had played out differently. Just because the Aztecs and Mayan civilizations fell doesn't mean they shouldn't be represented.

For those who don't want to see more European civilizations added, a key is also to look past national borders and see how different the cultures are in different places. More Asian civs would probably be good, and more from Africa. The reason more African civs don't show up is that many people don't know about many great leaders from Africa(not counting those from Egypt and Shaka of the Zulu). There are some, but not a great number of leaders.

And again, this is based on how things played out in the real world.

If it did include a new patch for Warlords, and you wanted to be able to play others without the patch (though why they wouldn't just download the patch separately I don't know), you could just dual install Warlords (just duplicate the Warlords folder)... then the old version would remain in the copied folder.

Boudica of the Celts will have the trait combination aggressive/charismatic.

The Apostolic Palace allows its owner and civs with the appropriate state religion to discuss matters of foreign policy (including reassigning cities to other civs).

Privateers and paratroopers will be back.

Multiplayer games will allow leader and civilization to be chosen separately, e.g. Boudica of the Romans

Oooh, this could be fun to find the most overpowered one with. Can't figure it out right now, though.
Participating in my threads is mandatory. Those who do not do so will be forced, in their next game, to play a power directly between Catherine and Montezuma.

I hope the same choices will be available in SP.

                      • It won't. The interview explicitly stated that it's a multiplayer option. On multiplayer, powerful combinations can be counteracted by the other players, e.g. you could have Qin Shi Huang of the Mali (cheap mints, protective skirmishers), Gandhi of the Egyptians (philosophical + obelisks), Augustus of the Zulu (organised + Ikandhas), or just have everyone play as Boudica of the Romans. The AI isn't free to pick powerful combinations in single player.

                        • No, what the interview said, was that MP players in particular will like it, not that it's MP only.

                          • Strategy Informer: What about the multiplayer side to the game? Will this have any new modes or options to give new challenges to the players?

Alex Mantzaris: One option that I think will prove popular in multiplayer is the ability to select any leader-civilization combination.

                              • Technically Nikolai is correct, though it is implied and I would be very surprised if this is available as a default SP feature.
