  • All governments in Civ4 are communist

Think about it... the GOVERNMENT builds the marketplaces. The GOVERNMENT builds Hollywood (so it can provide teh masses with it's propaganda). The GOVERNMENT builds all the power plants, universities, banks... my God... is there anything the GOVERNMENT doesn't build in Civ4?

    Hmmm... NO!

Not only that, but all governments are totalitarian regimes. Sure, there might be some benevolent rulers here and there, but these are all Stalinist governments.

The civics are merely labels that hide the reality of this situation. There is no pacifism. There is no free market system. It's all just different forms of tyranny!

To us, it is the BEAST.

It doesn't invent God -- just belief in one.

It is not Communism. It is a benevolent Dictatorship. It is a case of the Philospher King. It is Jehovah commanding the Isrealites. It is a Chinese dynasty. It is the pharoahs of Egypt acting as God-King. If it were Communism, there would be a Communist Party structure I would have to deal with before issuing any orders. Quite frankly, this particular 6000 year old demi-god is not going to put up with that. I've got enough problems managing my workers as it is!

                      You make a good point.

I look at the system of building things in another way. Think of it as building the physical structures in some cases (libraries, and things that governments usually are responsible for building), but in other cases, like Hollywood or something that the private sector would build, what you build in the queue is more like a bureaucratic system to support and maintain such a structure or series of structures.

An example that comes to mind is the Supermarket. Would each city be realistically supplied and satisfied with a single utopian supermarket? Of course not! Cities with millions of people need many supermarkets. Plus, the supermarkets need a transportation system and a well organized structured bureaucracy in order to get the food to the consumer in a timely fashion. Building these systems is what you do in the queue.

So, the systems of checks and balances, the continued evolution of each city's bureaucracy and economy is represented by the queue.

At least, that is how I see it.

Threads typically get closed, not deleted. And I think this one an be allowed to live so far.

As for commies. Well, I support goverment propaganda Hollywood films. But since I am leader, I have good taste in movies. So my citizens enjoy nothing but the finest entertainment and porn.
