Most (civ) games should be played before trying CtP2. The game might not be as bad as some here imply, but it's not that good.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

      Play CtP2.
You are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment for your dual crimes against Civ. You shall be locked in a cell, with a computer, but one with Windows and the Sims and nothing else on it. Even solitaire and minesweeper shall be removed. Thus, you shall die having learnt your lesson.

I can't endorse that kind of cruelty.
I say we just hang 'im.

the old civs were fun for their time but you'd spend as much time getting used to what's changed as you'd learn preparing yourself for civ4.

about the debates: i didn't like CtP at all. i can't even remember why, just that i was all excited about it but after 3 days i never played it again.

SMAC i loved. i do miss some things from SMAC in civ4. oh for the ability to customize units in game!!

i know i'm in the minority, but i wish civ4 wasn't 3d. to me it doesn't add to the gameplay, and just makes it confusing and easily gets me dizzy. but, i'm old-fashioned i know, and i'm trying to adjust.
