What's that second executable at the very bottom, after readme?

It's listed as "TestApp3900"

I think I found a bug in Windows, for some reason there is no scroll bar on that window until I used the arrow keys to scroll down past the bottom, then it appeared.

I went ahead and bit the bullet. I purchased Warlords and tried to install it. Everything went fine and it works with no problem. Still requires the CD in the drive to play Warlords, but it created a folder in the Civ IV directory named Warlords and I was able to play as Celts with no issues.

Doesn't Civ4 require a CD if bought from Steam? Sounds that way from your post.

I think I said that badly. Let me try to clean that up:

The vanilla Civ IV doesn't require a CD if purchased from Steam. In fact there is no CD, as it's just a digital download.

Warlords still requires the Warlords CD to play though, even though vanilla Civ IV just connects to Steam to play and has no CD check.

Ahh, yes, of course. As far as I understand, Warlords doesn't even know if you bought Civ4 over Steam or retail, so of course it requires the CD . Probably will appear on Steam at some point in the future, though.

Even for civilized countries such as the US, which have shops and shipping, there are other reasons why one might want to buy on Steam.

Lack of a CD check. Or the ability to get the game quicker. With a fast connection, you can get a game over Steam in less time than it would take you if you were buying a retail copy. And the fact that you can reinstall the game later and play it even if you lose/break your CD.

Granted, in the end, it comes down to personal preference.

It's a digital distribution system by Valve (developers of the Half-Life games). Basically, it's a program with which you can buy games online (used to be Valve games only, but now also a bunch of other games, including Civ4), and your purchased games get downloaded to your PC.

So, it is not piracy, but a legal thing. Good.

Perhaps I can buy one or two old games I miss, since the developers

need not to put it in a phisical device.
