  • Warlords V2.08 bug thread

The patch fixed a lot of bugs, but there are still bugs left. So if you find one in the latest patch, post it here.

    - The game (still) crashes when you have a firewall and try to connect to the web. Your firewall blocks access, but the game won't give up focus, even if you press alt-tab or ctrl-alt-delete, and it's attempt to connect to the internet never seems to time-out. I guess this doesn't happen with the default windows firewall, because you can add the game to the exception list on install, but it does happen with zonealarm. Haven't tried with others.

    - When you start the barbarians scenario lots of strange things happen. Whatever map type and options you select, it always reverts them to a random size fractal map. Also when you boot the scenario it shows you the window for a custom game, however starting such a game yields entirely different parameters then starting a normal game. Like the # of civs.

    - When you start a barbarians campaign during the initial turns the game autosaves. Perhaps not really a bug, but it does seem to be a rather pointless waste of time

    - (still barbarians) When you do not build a unit in the F4 screen immidiately (when it pops up the first time), the game tells you that 'you have been defeated'.

    - (still barbarians) The default unit that is selected for building when you press F4 is a lion. That unit is not in the list, and shouldn't be buildable, but if you press 'add' when the unit is still selected you do get a lion.

    - When you have automated workers idling in your capital because they have nothing to do, there is a bug with selecting them. If you select one, all is fine. But if you then select another (with shift) to make a group, the game takes away the focus on your workers and moves it to whatever unit that you hadn't moved yet this turn was first in line. You have to manually go back to your city and select the workers again if you want to make them do something.

    - When you have a chariot or other move-2 unit attacking a unit across a river, with a double move, the river penalty is not displayed. So if your target is two moves away from you, and the second move crosses a river but the first one doesn't. You cross a river on your attack, and thus get a penalty for this. This isn't displayed however when you mouse-over.

    - A bug with vassal states: When you are at war with someone who has a vassal, and you sign a peace treaty, you sign one with his vassal as well (obviously). If that vassal now breaks free the peace treaty is voided, even if the minimum 10 turns haven't passed yet.

    - Another vassal thing, not really a bug, but weird: When you declare war on a master, you auto-declare war on the vassal. This means you get a diplomatic penalty with the vassal, even when he is freed. This leads to weird diplomatic results, where your friends can hate you because you freed them from a mutual enemy. Perhaps the relationship modifier should be "You declared war on our master" (and "you declared war on our friend" if the master was a friend), and be gone once the vassalship ends.

    - When you use a spy to steal the military plans of a civ, you do not see submarines. I know vanilla civ showed submarines on the zoomed out map, and I guess the fix to that caused this bug (but that's speculation).

    - When you're playing OCC the screen with victory conditions only shows one line for culture victory. You only have one city, so all your cities are shown, but you can't see the 2nd and 3rd cities of your rivals, so you can't see how close they are to a culture victory. I guess it shows one line as well when you only own one city in a normal game, and two when you own two, but that is speculation.

      - desert tiles beside rivers often don't have the floodplains feature (I hope this a bug and not a designed change).

      - barbarians can still build wonders. Not that I mind, it was an easy stongehenge to capture.

      - an enemy spearman moved two tiles in one turn (across a non-roaded, forested hill in my territory) when it should only have been able to move one tile.

They've broken stacked bombing somewhat. Used to be that you could select all your bombers, give the orders and it would use as many bombers to finish the order. Then, on the next order, the bombers with turns left could act as well. But now you have to deselect the bombers with no turns left before you can use the remaining bombers.

You should get a Zonealarm pop-up which allows you to get access, but as you don't try this.

            1. Open up Zonealarm and select program control.

            2. Scroll down the list until you find the two Civ4 entries (vanilla and warlords)

            3. Click on the 'Access' column and you should get a green tick.

This will allow access to the Internet.

Well that works, obviously. But this is a bug-report thread. So even bugs that can be worked around should be posted, right? Not everybody will know how to manually configure a firewall.

Two more bugs, both involving large stacks:
              - When you mouse-over a large stack of units, the pop-up is sometimes bigger than the screen. In warlords, it groups units of the same type together in the mouseover to avoid this, but this routine seems bugged. If I set my screen to 1600x1200 I don't have the problem, but for my normal resolution (1152x768) and for 1280x960 the popup is too big, making it impossible to see what the top units are. This is rather unfortunate, because the top unit is the most interesting one.

              - When you mouseover a large stack to get a popup, the game sometime forgets to put enters in the unit list. This screws the layout. This might have been a design choice to save space, I'm not sure, but I think it's just an oversight. It's rather annoying anyway.

How about something they fixed in Warlords, but rebusted in 2.08.

When you attack with a stack and the attack retreats, but still has movement points, it considers the entire stack finished. IE it moves the focus and you need to unstack and either restack or attack singularly.

Stack combat also seems to be picking which unit to attack with strangely. I'll try to define strangely after a few more games.

Woodsman II? I often aim for this with my wandering Warrior you start the game with. Means he can wander around the map quite effectively.

Possibly guerilla 2 also for hill movement...

This is a feature if the tiles in question are near the poles.

Not sure if this is a bug or design:

In 2.08 the experience promotion for warlord units was increased from +50% experience gained to +100% experience gained. I'm playing the Mongols scenario, and in this scenario it is still +50% changed. Haven't checked other scenario's yet.

As far as I'm aware warriors can't get the guerilla promotions.
