Let's await a decision here. If they say no we can always look somewhere else.

There's no hurry in setting up this game. If you can't one week you don't have the required patience for a demogame anyway.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

    • In response to Locutus comments in post 137, which were addressed to me, I offer this response, for and to, Locutus.

Firstly, I disagree with your “stadium” analogy. The space to play is not the issue or question, it is one of manpower. I believe that this is an important distinction.

Some people do not want us to play this game because they fear, rightly or wrongly, that the people playing the new game will not be as active in the older game.

However some, and only some, of those who are opposing this new game, are members of the older games, but are not active in those games themselves. They however are saying that I cannot play in a new game, as they believe that this will reduce my activity?

In light of these comments, I can only come to one conclusion.

That these people believe they have the right to demand that I remain active in the older games, even though they themselves are not.

Do they believe I am under some kind of obligation to remain active in any game, even though they obviously feel that they are relieved of similar obligations?

A notable position indeed, but not one that I can accept.

However, as a solution to this problem I can quite happily ignore their position, as they are obviously ignoring mine.

Locutus, my problems is this – in your own post you have said that Apolyton endorses these people’s positions on activity in the older games.

And that these people have the right and/or power to decide if I may play in a new game, and therefore have to lower my activity in the older games. That in some way they have the right to decide where I will be active and where I will not be.

But neither Apolyton, nor any of its members has that right, in my opinion.

This was, (or is), a very simple question – can we play or not?

After all that has been said, and my earlier post, you may rightly wonder why I have returned to post this.

Simply because I wish to give you & Apolyton the benefit of the doubt, that you will not allow people who clearly have no wish to play in a proposed new game, to forbid others to do so.

      Best regards,

Oh dear, it appears that your argument is based on an ad hominem. It does not matter whether those who make the argument are active themselves or not - what matters is what they *say*.
They may be hypocrites, but that doesn't necesarily mean they are wrong.

I don't see a problem with this game as they propose to constitute it. In fact it is a whole lot different from any of the DGs tried here before.

Whereas we have always had large games with many teams organised for an epic contest, this is more like gladitorial combat. It should be short and sharp. It could actually be of benefit to the larger DGs by making more players aware of DGs and creating a greater interest in them, thus increasing the uptake for the 'classic' epic games.

          I say let them play.[/q]

I'd just like to clarify something here. I agree 100% with nyes' post, and I am not against a new game starting as ET claimed me to be.

          • I didn't say that you were against a new game, I was making a encompasing statement, because of the perception of others that you were against it (i.e. the "notable few thing").

it's that symantics thing again and I'm sorry if you thought I was saying something different from what I had meant.

And I'm not even certain now if I'm coming off the right way. So, I'll just watch how this develops.

            • Ok, a lot has been said (more or less eloquently... ) and a lot of feathers have been ruffled. I think it´s time to end this before it creates more conflict than it already has. There´s at the moment two new games set up at CGN (courtesy of Paddy ) a Warlords SPDG and a small two team Warlords DG/PBEM. I urge those who are interested in pursuing the idea of a Warlords team DG to go to CGN and play this game. Or they can wait for someone to set up the warlords DG on this site. The thing is that the internet and fanbase is big enough for this to happen. I´m sure that when Poly sets up its own Warlords team DG it will be great, but in the meantime we´d like to play a small fast paced game of our own. Noone can deny us that.

So, let´s concentrate on what we´re all here for, ie great gaming, and stop this chewing of old sour grapes!

                I completely agree.
But if the general consent is to move to this other site for the time being, I'll happily come along.

I don't think it is a situation of where you have to choose one or the other. It is quite likely that I would play in an Apolyton game if one is authorized.

I don't believe that there is any competition here. The only thing is that there is now a game for those who do not wish to wait. Locutus has said that Apolyton has some concerns. He has also alluded to the fact that at Apolyton, these games can take months to set up. No problem. CGN was willing to begin a game immediately and provide a place for those who wish to enjoy a Warlords Demogame right away.

It is not a matter of disloyalty or any form of competition to want to play right away...it is just simply a desire to play. Reading anything else into it (and not that you are!) would be a mistake IMHO.

I must again, however, express my dismay that Apolyton, the leader in Civilization coverage, has to even wonder if they will host a game dedicated to the latest incarnation of the game we all love.

                            • If a Warlords DG is set up here I´ll probably participate in it. As Plato says, there isn´t any competition between Poly and CGN here.
