Welcome aboard James!I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

After 9 pages of shouting, screaming and trolling the issue is still the same:
We are a small group of players that want some fun with a Warlords Democracy game. We are asking Apolyton to host it for two main reasons: Because we all love Apolyton and want to play here, and because we hope other members from the Apolyton community will sign up if we play here.
Apolyton is reluctant to host our game because they fear it might draw away attention from other demogames, thus hurtin those games.
That is the issue, everything else is at best irrelevant and at worst ... well, let's not go there. If Locutus has spare time perhaps he could use it to clean this thread up a bit.
Anyway, back on topic. I still simply can not understand Apolyton's objections. Sure it might draw a few players away from those other demogames. But we are 19, that's plenty with just 2 teams. Many of us are not playing the other demogames atm, or can be trusted to be able to manage both. The current demogames have 175 and 82 members. I really doubt they will die because we might reduce those numbers by 4 or 5.
And in fact, with more interest in demogames, and more fun demogames on the site, we might actually attract more interest in demogames in general, and thus more players for everyone.
The demogame we want is entirely different from any other done before. Only 2 teams, much less diplomacy, much faster action. Fits the warlords theme, but also adds much needed diversity to our demogame collection.
And really, how can the #1 civ-site on the web consider not hosting a game for the (at this moment) newest and best version of civ.

Tassadar, enough of your crap. Stop spamming and trolling this thread right now, though I know you're attracted to a thread where there's trouble. Or else you can join Beta and PLATO in breathing some fresh air.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

After all that has been said the question was really simple. Can we play the game here or not.
There has been a disgraceful set of posts in this thread in the last 24 hours.
And still the question could not be answered with a yes or a no.
We are here to play a game called civilization. Not to be the brunt of a game called lets work it out.

Actually, this takes the pressure off the admins here to make a decision that will make some people unhappy.
I suugest that all that wish to play now, go to the CGN game. I am sure that Poly will eventually decide that they are still in the CivDG business and host a Warlords demogame.
At that time all the good time managers that are in the CGN game could probably handle another one and all the poor time managers may be ready to take it on."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

And I've said repeatedly that we need a week or two to work out if you can play here because there are some valid concerns (that also apply to any game started on CGN), but that we are leaning towards yes. The other DGs took months to set up, it's really too much to wait a few days on our decision?

I for one would like to say thanks to Locutus for taking on the task of trying to resolve a situation in which someone will inevitably end up not pleased.Never give an AI an even break.

No, it isn't too much to wait a few days for a fair decision that doesn't simply pander to a vocal minority (on either side).

thanks Locutus
as you all may see by a post above, a set of forums have now been setup for those who would like to play this style of game
I understand the process Locutus has faced and has willingly been working through
yet through this last day many issues have been thrown at this thread... this thread was created so we could play a game
and to some here a game still equals having fun
so in the vain that the equation of game = fun is a reality, 7 minutes was invested, and a few forums were created
so as the saying goes
Game On

When they can host a CivDG without reservation, then I am sure that they will have plenty of players. There is now no need for them to rush to a decision that will make some of their posters unhappy.
Locutus, you guys take a few months. Make sure everybody is happy. People will play when Poly is ready.
The delay here has actually complicated things...as there is now going to be a DG at CGN. If to many DG's was the problem, then it just got worse.
I would like to suggest that Poly support the CGN game and defer their decision until such time that they feel that a second Warlords game hosted here would be well attended and not damaging to the remaining DGs here.
Here is the link again from James post for all who wish to play now:

Normally we are of course always happy to do help you guys with this, that is our raison d'etre after all. But in this case it creates a conflict. It's like football: we only have one stadium and if several teams want to play matches on the same field, they can't all play at the same time. As much as we would like to let everyone play, we'll have to make a choice of who gets to use the field when.
This situation with multiple DGs running concurrently is not exactly the same but it's similar: the more DGs are running, the less people will be active for each game. People who have been playing DGs for many years including myself have seen this happen over and over again. People always say in advance it won't happen but it always does. Maybe this time is different, but maybe it's not. We have to take the possibility into account because you can bet that people will be blaming us if it does happen.
Whereas we have always had large games with many teams organised for an epic contest, this is more like gladitorial combat. It should be short and sharp. It could actually be of benefit to the larger DGs by making more players aware of DGs and creating a greater interest in them, thus increasing the uptake for the 'classic' epic games.
I say let them play.(\__/)

I don't like this running away to another forum at all.
Let's await a decision here. If they say no we can always look somewhere else.
There's no hurry in setting up this game. If you can't one week you don't have the required patience for a demogame anyway.

I am going to start by apologizing to Plato, CM, and Paddy. I was wrong to bring up past events as I did. Those events contributed, along with a pile of RL matters, to me leaving Apolyton for awhile. It is clear that there are still some raw nerves on both sides, and my bringing up the matter, quite out of context, did nothing but touch on those nerves. So again, sorry for raising it, and for a number of the related comments I made.
Secondly, it saddens me to see what appears to be a split in our community, with some being labelled the noteable few, and the like, and those in favour of this game versus those opposed. Not sure what we can do to get over it. Maybe start a new demo game. Maybe assign players to teams randomly so we can get to know each other better. But somehow we do need to get back to a point where we can have a good and open discussion without it degenerating to the level that it did.
Thirdly, I hope folks are still interested in exploring the different possibilities regarding a warlords game here at Poly. Locutus has said the same; and if we do go ahead, simply asked for some time to get it set up. Even nye supports the idea (btw - I would consider him a significant 'noteable few' )
To that end, I have my pitboss based game idea written up, if folks are interested. I was also thinking that a 4 team, 2 vs 2, match might be a good twist.
Beta.
(edit) ps Diadem - my apologies to you as well for my comment of last night.Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.
