Do you play the same civ, random civ, or just select different ones?

I tend to favor a couple of different civs. I also tend to go after the best UU since I like the opportunity to use it. the traits are also a big factor. I really like the industrious trait, as well as organized, financial. I haven't tried charasmatic and protective, but they seem cool. So, I guess i play as USA a lot, as well as Germany. I want to try Russia soon, but I hate what they did to the Cossak.

Also, I'm trying my first game as Rome, interesting. Pratorians really do rock.

I used to play as Spiritual plus anything. At first, I strongly preferred Ghandi in vanilla Civ 4. Now, I play random unless the Civ comes up with the Expansive trait. At the lower levels I play, this trait has not been very useful. Going to random player has been a big step for me, requiring more skill than I realized I had. Who knows? If I keep this up I may even go up a difficulty level.

Because of the skills I learned from going random, I went up a level. It does help.

I choose the civ I want to play each time, based upon the trait combinations I feel like playing around with at that time.

QFT. I don't really 'get' random, but I guess that's because I have fairly strict deliniations between "stuff I like to play" and "Stuff I don't like to play".

Are the opponents also randomly selected? It seems, if I get certain leader, I also tend to get certain opponents... Is there a way to randomise those too?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

I pick my civ, but try to mix things up instead of playing the same one all the time. I definitely have my favorites, though.

I haven't yet been able to bring myself to pick a protective civ yet (don't like the trait), but at some point I'll make myself, probably as China or Korea.

I never play brown or tan civs.

Is there someway to change a civs color?

I'm trying out each of the civs, in no particular order. So far, as Louis and Augustus, I have done really well. As several of the others, not so well. Part of this could be the starting positions and nearby specials, but I like to see what kind of game works well with which leader.

I would win every time if I chose my own Civ, so I play random, which forces me to play Civs I normally wouldn't like the Aztecs.

I play random civs most of the time, but lately I have started to pick my own "random civ" as it seems like the random civ picker has certain civs on it's favorite list

I agree about the randomness of the random civ. And this includes AI civs.

I mentioned this before, but I have never seen Peter in any game- ever. I rarely see Ghandi. Victoria rarely.

I don't remember if I have seen Victoria, but Ghandi I've only seen in one of my first games, though it seems like India is in most games. Peter I only remember from screenshots, don't remember ever having played against him

I used to love going England, especially in Civ 3. Seafaring & Commercial & Man-o-War on archipelago maps simply blew the competition away.
I'd have to say I was pretty much obsessed with these settings and very rarely changed them since Civ 3 was my first Civ game.
England in CIV isn't such a obsession with me now and I view CIV with a cooler eye, more interested in having an entertaining challenge more than anything. So now I go Random Civ & Shuffle Map setting, makes things a whole lot more interesting.
I found myself having to think/agonise over certain decisions about what goals I'm trying to achieve and how, it was never as clear as when I was playing as England. Sometimes I get lumbered with some real stinkers where starting position is concerned but I try my best to stick with them, such as my recent Monarch Incan game where I was stuck on a lone set of mostly tundra/ice islands unable to comunicate with the outside world for thousands of years. I lost to the mainland powers naturally but I simply accepted losing as a necessary annoyance to the usual romping to an easy vistory.
By this way my skill has jumped from Noble to Prince and now I'm currently getting to grips with Monarch. But it's so much fun, it's like I've rediscovered a new game.

Is this a personal issue or you just have an issue with the color brown?

I'm pretty sure you can edit the XML to change colors from one civ to another civ.

I don't know if you can create your own colors though.
