What just happened?

I'm glad if the AI civ's manage to pull such a stunt on me and make 1 vs. 3-5 war. I haven't reloaded in those situations and try my best to cope with it. Of course I get my ass kicked but every time I go fighting and I try to take at least one civ with me.

I admit, I save just before declaring war. . But I don't think I've ever had to reload. I only save just in case they bring in 4 of their friends into the war against me.

I tend to play on whatever they do, but this is a good save point in case I wanted to try for an alternative outcome. Haven't done it, but that doesn't mean I never will. The advantage of SP is that I'm the only one who will ever know.
