  • For the next XP

I feel that the next XP, while improving AI, should take a more diplomatic focus. I feel that since Warlords focused on war the next XP should focus on Diplomacy. The intention of this thread is to start a brainstorm on what a Diplomatic XP should include. Some topics to get the ball rolling...

The United Nations, I think this needs to be both expanded and reigned in. It should include trade embargoes and "Police Actions". But you should also have the ability to defy the UN. How should this be implemented?

The League of Nations? A predecessor to the UN with less options for the player to choose from?

Arms reduction treaties? You could sign this with a fellow AI, I will reduce my amount of tanks if you do the same?

    Nuclear arms reduction treaties?

New civic choices? Free Trade, Socialism, Parlimentary system.

How about simulating Globalization? Tarriff agreements with Foreign countries?

Increase the power of spies? Maybe find a way to incorporate a Diplomat ala Civ2 into civ4

Colonies, maybe a touch more complex than they were in Civ3

    Privateers?

Of course not all of these are ideas I necessarily think should be implemented, they are placed rather to spur discussion.

    What do you guys think?

I voted yes. Improving diplomacy will always be a good thing. Since as you said Warlords focused on military, then an XP that focuses on diplomacy should be called Civilization IV: POLITICIANS

      -=Wishlist for next xp improvements=-

      In order of feasibility

      - Espionage
      - Trade (Blockable routes, navigable rivers)
      - Naval Warfare
      - Air Warfare
      - Industrial Revolution mechanic... something that has to be built/developed like a massive wonder, though maybe across cities?
      - Updated slavery mechanic- Dissent in modern age proportionate to slavery usage in early/mid game.

I voted no because I think that diplomacy is pretty good now, and attempts to expand it will only break it. I think the original game was very strong while Warlords added new stuff that makes the game easier which is to say the AI cannot handle the new stuff. I know, there is no money to be made in tweaking the original game, they had to add new stuff to make money.

I have a wierd feeling that, considering the Civs that haven't made it yet (and probably will), the next XP will have a religious/scientific focus; meaning cultural.

I suspect that an XP named "Politicians" would sell rather poorly; "Lawyers," even worse; but an XP named Kill the Politicians" might be the best-selling expansion of all times.

I'm looking forward to some negotiations in our negotiating... but I'd buy "XP: Kill the Politicians". That's probably a "scenario-only" XP.

I think they should expand both diplomacy and espionage, since they're both pretty similar. I'm sure an XP called Spies could sell.

                              politicians. Yep, won't sell well.

XP. I've already discussed this in so many other thread. We should all know how I'd like to improve naval warfare.

                              Better nukes.

Better diplomacy (more civ3 options- just improve the AI so they can understand the options).

                              Better espionage
