Stalin in life was evil in many ways. In terms of empire, he definitely expanded that of the Soviet Union, an already powerful empire. Therefore, he is defendable as a optional leader in a GAME like civ. It is only a game, and you don't have to choose him as a leader, or like him if he shows up as an AI. He can hardly be expected to be popular among those who got swept into that empire.

I think it is a fair statement that everyone here is glad the Soviet Union is gone , and glad that Stalin is dead.

I like Ghandi, I have no dubts-he was great person..., why do you compare him with Stalin?... Ghandi always is a great problem on monarch , but he is nice ...

Yes, you're wright that everyone is happy that Soviet union came apart (Without Moscow, byt Ukraine, and other are rather happy...). But it is not my task to talk about it...

You are right, Firaxis workerc (I think you work for firaxis because of your profile's sygnatures...), It is only a GAME, but what a game? ... A.H. of Germany changed wordl's history too, and I expect he will never appeare in Civ... Stalin was not so bad as him, it's true, but it is a bit controversial to put him in Civ... And it allways will be controversial to put such people in a PC games...
        I've got Warlords! :D:D:D...

I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

Voldemort should not be in civ4!

Stalin seemed like a strange choice. I still can't figure out why they put him in there, except maybe for a ww2 scenario. But then, they are leaving out 2 important figures (3 if we want to be complete- but there are no Italians in the game). Not to mention there is no ww2 scenario in warlords.

The way I see it, if Stalin is in, then Hitler should be as well. Just because americans are more ignorant of the atrocities Stalin was responsible than those Hitler was responsible for doesn't make it okay.

Not to mention the firebombing campaings under the administrations of Churchill and FDR. True, they can't compare to Stalin and Hitler, but are still noteworthy nonetheless. I'll even blame the nuke use on FDR. Sure he was dead, but he would have used them.

                  Umm - no .

Someone else, who figured in the same sandpit as Churchill, Roosevelt & Stalin.

Second Time I ever played Civ 4 - umm - yes - this is when I learnt that the SOD method does not work, and that one defender in each city is really not a good idea.

                      SOD works for me.

And I still do one defender in each city.

The important thing is to have a mobile offense force (and maybe a couple defenders) to get into an area quickly. The thing you have to watch out for is when they declare war and drop off a whole bunch of units from ships (the ai is better at this than in past games). For some reason I always miss this message when it comes up. I admit I reloaded my last game because I missed the message and had no idea enemy troops were in my territory.

I probably should mention that before civ 4 i had played civ 1, no civ 2, nor any civ 3.

I had some learning to do!

So, Nugog, have you met Stalin yet and what do you think. He was my neighbor in one game and placed his cities as close to mine as he could to deprive me of certain resources. My culture overcame both such cities which revolted to me with the resources already fully developed. Thanks, dude. He later declared war despite my superior military and I assisted his exit from the game. It's nice to have neighbors you instinctively don't like. Given his traits, I don't know why anyone would actually want to play as him.

Romans... So Benito, Adolf and Hideki should deffinately be in the game. Or maybe Hirohito, not sure...

First time I met Stalin in Civ4, he was on the opposite part of the pangaea map and we had nothing to do with each other except some trading. Then suddenly he DoWed me and attacked with all he had through the two other civs we had between us. I barely managed to keep my nearest city, but at the same time I kicked his units' asses so he gladly accepted a white peace when I proposed it.

The reason Hitler will not appear in Civ is because anything that can be construed as pro-nazi is illegal in Germany, France, and much of the rest of Europe. Firaxis isn't about to test that line and risk not being able to sell the game in Europe.

If the Russians made a similar ban against Stalin, (and Russians actually bought software instead of pirating it,) Firaxis would probably not include Stalin.
