  • Great Wall Bug

See the attached file. I had the great wall for quite some time and was very suprised to see this barbarian archer slip around the end of the wall.

Hmm, baffling. Did it happen more than once?

Did you close the cat's door properly?

What happened next? Did the barb archer move further in to your territory as well?

The archer did indeed come and attack me. Thus, I no longer suffered the barbarian city to live.

The only reason I could imagine this occuring is because the archer might have gone from that peninsula-like desert tile and have just went (literally) around the wall.

But, I would think the overall rule of barbarians not being able to enter your boundaries would apply, so it's just a really odd bug. I haven't had it happen to myself so far.

How strange....I've never had that happen to me. Then again, I haven't built the Great Wall all that often.

I mostly build the great wall for fun, so I don't really pay attention if this bug occurs.

The GW wonder works on all tiles within your cultural border, not just the ones the wall encircles. I wonder if this is a bug related to the fact that the barbarian city state was bordering yours in that odd configuration (ie, if the state wasn't there, the Archer would not have gotten through.)

Or, alternatively, the weird diagonal crossing doesn't trigger whatever check there is in whether or not barbarians are allowed to enter your territory. Thus, the check to see if the GW works seems to only work on that first crossing. Once the unit crosses (illegally), it can move freely in your territory rather than being "frozen" on the square it got into by mistake.

                  That´s what I think, too.
Perhaps leaving a tile with a city is handled differently from leaving a normal tile.

I guess it's because of the city being right to the right of the wall or something. You can bet it'll be fixed with the first patch though.

I'm amazed that anyone would have unexplored terrain on his home continent in 1100 AD

I was actually saving the barbarian city just for kicks to see how advanced it could get. Since I was safe from it, or so I thought.

No I had these borders for a long time.

Now I was using the world builder to rewrite the Wall graphic, just because I think it is cool. I wonder if that had some strange effect.
