How about adding the warlord to a stack of two 7 xp explorers? Promote one to Medic 3 and the other to Combat 3 + Sentry.
Libraries are state sanctioned, so they're technically engaged in privateering. - Felch

If I'm going to soak off, I might as well turn him into an instructor.
I just have to change my thinking. Already I try to protect the stronger units a touch, and regret their lose when it happens. This shouldn't be any different, but it seems to be.

So I started another game, and while I used my first one to continue the Pret. rush, I've already started prepping a city to be recipient of the next few.

And it was quite effective. I got 3 instructors in my troop generation city (HE,WP) with the help of a few civics, it cranked out good units every turn or two.

THe first to get the experience to build WP and the rest as instructors. (except for one I got late far away so I left him in the field for the final mop up.)

I have attached warlords to artillery units a couple of times now, and I find it to be fairly effective. First of all they live for more than five turns (as long as they are escorted), unlike other warlord units that tend to die immediately in counterattacks. Also, an artillery with two movement points can be very useful when slogging large stacks up to a city. If the last hex is clear, you can move up with your stack and then bombard on the same turn. Also, you can catch up to a stack and save yourself a turn or two.

Also, artilleries can become real monsters with lots of XP's. The best one I had was city raider III and barrage III, along with tactics and extra movement. That thing was an unholy terror, and could get winning odds against any city after the culture defense was down. Of course, I was terrified to fire it until the odds were 90% plus.
