I'm finishing up my first game of Civ4 and I noticed one thing about the U.N. (I constructed) - It sucks! The computer keeps passing resolutions like every 5 turns - global civics being the worst. My strategy for my next game will be to let the computer build it and then wipe out the city it's in. Any thoughts?

You could switch off the Diplomatic victory option. Then no one gets the UN.LandMasses Version 3 Now Available since 18/05/2008.

This will work!
However, letting the AI build the UN, then rolling your tanks through it has a certain appeal
There have been many posts here regarding how the UN, well, sucks.
Maybe Fraxis will fix it, but probably not.
I almost always turn Diplomatic Victory off.I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

There have also been posts explaining how to use the UN resolutions to your advantage. If you don't like what an AI can do with a wonder, either build it yourself or take it.

Yeah, but the problem with the UN is that you don't control it even if you build it.
In fact, Warmongers have the least to worry about wrt controlling the UN, as they usually have the population to need only minimum diplomacy to get the votes they need.
Peaceful UN wins with low population are much more of a diplomatic challenge than controlling the UN on the way to Conquest or Domination.

They should have made the UN more realistic. Like it can pass resolutions and if you break them it affects your diplomatic status - but you're still free to break them. I would just let the computer build it and nuke the thing (if nukes worked at all in this version)Watashi no atama wa mochi ni natta

The mushroom cloud is sweet, but the mukes don't do anything to the city unless you alter the game files for bomb shelters and the SDI. I actually started another thread all about the nuke issue and a lot of people are weighing in. You should check it out (general - useless nukes)Watashi no atama wa mochi ni natta

But why bother disable cultural victories. I've never seen an AI meet the needed requirements, and IMHO, the only way to win one yourself is to target it from the very beginning. I see no reason to have to disable it, since it doesn't come into play unless you want it to.

UN still blows.................
There should be the option to ignore the UN, and penalties for doing so.
Or you could use the UN to invade another country.
Or ignore it, form your own coalition and invade a country anyway..........I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. What level do you play? I paly prince and monarch (I won once on monarch, byt it was very difficult), and I never have had big problems with UN . Ussualy I was one of 2 great, byt problems were only when AI done global civics... Very very annoing... But I have never got any problems with AI diplomatic victory! (I haven't won too)... So, what level do you play? My opinion about monarch: when powerfull civ declares war to you-you have no chances... What is your opinion about difficoulty of levels?I've got Warlords! :D:D:D...
