As I mentioned in a thread I started before I saw this one, Castles now give 1 extra trade route until Economics.

This is nice, yes, but it seems that it's made obsolete pretty fast. The gap between Engineering and Economics isn't very large. Also, and I may have been mistaken, it seemed like once Economics was learned you could no longer build Castles.

My suspicion is that people are going to be going for engineering earlier than they used to in order to get that trade route and trebuchets so that the castle life time will be extended.

has the placement algorithm for furs changed? i'm used to only seeing them on tundra and ice, and now they're popping up on coastal plains.

apparently, xp gained by scouts from defending against lions does not count towards the combat experience bar.

edit: or barb xp at all. at least, not outside borders (and i'd prefer not to find out about inside borders). sucks.

Great Generals are very powerful, and to get them from fighting barbarians might be a bit over powering, considering especially how easy that could be exploited.

eh, just gives me another reason to turn off barbs.

edit: but i feel you SHOULD get points if you defend against barbs inside your own territory.

In the Domestic Advisor, if you click on any one line of data for a given city, there is a display underneath. It seems to be a listing of what specialists you have in the city, listed by type of specialist and how many you have of the possible total of that type . I do not recall seeing that before or metioned in the new manual.
                    If you aren't confused,
                    You don't understand.

Did you know that if you right-click on the leader image on your trade advisor screen that you can immediately negotiate with that civ? Perhaps this is old news.

When playing the game, you can open a window by:

                        [esc]->[Game Details]

There's a button [Allow Debug Tools] that you can check.

But can someone who has the manual (I have a legit but earlier version of the game) have a look (probably in an appendix) and see if it mentions a Hot Key for entering debugging mode?

                          Yeah, it's in vanilla.

This is true for all of the diplo screens, including resources, techs, etc. in the vanilla game.

It's a helpful little trick, because left-click doesn't seem to do anything but put you back at the top of the screen, IIRC.

I try to ALWAYS defend against barbs. It's far more rare for me to actually ATTACK them, since that just puts my units at a penalty.
