  • Ign scenario preview

It looks like the last bit of info has been released. We only had detailed info on a few scenarios so far but this one gives even more details on even those few.

    Awesome

Chinese Unification is interesting, with the bloodlines thing.

But my favourite will be Alexander:

Though the scenario lasts a healthy 200 turns, you can only achieve victory by taking over every single city on the map.

If it's as good as the Alexander scenario from CTP2, I'll be a verry happy puppy.

EDIT: I just noticed pages 2 and 3 of the review

    All I can say is:

    Rise of Rome:

The units here are what you'd expect from the civilizations and time period. What's more interesting is that each unit type has a number of upgrades that can be researched. This means that the Roman player will be fighting with the same Praetorian units throughout the entire game but the latter ones will be considerably stronger than those he or she started with.

    :double drool:

This expansion is going to be awesome! Best of all, there's no space race in any of these scenarios

      Alexander is such a badass

If look at the promotions you can see two new promotions. One looks like Guerilla 3. The other one has an eagle icon.

I love the symbol for Wotanism on the Viking scenario - means finally I will be able to make my own mod with only European religions and play it with European civs.

As someone who's worked on both (in both cases in a very minor way), I unfortunately have to tell you it's not.

The CtP2 scenario was a truely amazing piece of work (apart from a few glaring bugs -- as the rest of the game it was released before it was done), very few people could come up with something great like that. It raised the bar for scenarios on this topic almost impossibly high.

Harlan (who designed the CtP2 scenario) was a genius. I don't wanna say anything bad about the guy who designed the Civ4 scenario, but he's not Harlan. You can't expect the same standard of work from someone who's less genius and had less time.

I'm not saying it's a bad scenario (not commenting on that, you'll have to find that out for yourself), but I wouldn't want you to get your hopes up unreasonably high -- you'd only setting yourself up for a dissappointment no matter how good this scenario might be.

ghengis khan scenario looks very interesting. lots of new concepts. Vikings of course is cool as well.

edit: oh and barbs (on page 3). Lots of interesting options. Purchase unit advancements or more units? hmm.

Can't say anything about the Geurilla III promotion, but I can tell you that the writer of the article has confirmed that the Eagle is a 'Great General' only promotion. That one grants +50% combat experience to whatever unit the Great General is attached to. Hope that helps.

All of this sounds great, and I'll say that I'm a very happy gamer right now.

But what I'm confused about are the vassal states. How do they function exactly, and how does one go about creating one exactly?

A vessel state is like a civ in a bottle. Nobody can figure out how it got in there, but it's nice to have on your mantlepiece.

Hmm, very interesting. Thanks for the insight.

I have to admit, I am pretty excited about these scenarios. I was not too thrilled about the emphasis on scenarios, but I am actually quite excited to play these.
