I do that at times, depending on my starting techs and surroundings

I would probably bring in a worker or two to chop trees for a few fishing boats...switch to slavery and use the huge growth to rush a lighthouse, a granary, an obelisk, and a few more workers only to turn it into a specialist city....maybe scientists.

EDIT: upon realizing it was a capital site, I would probably make the settler after the lighthouse and postpone the obelisk and granary along with the two workers for later.

He doesn't have the option to build anything else yet, Autotropx.

I would say build a warrior or two and maybe start a barracks while you research the techs you need to take advantage of all that food.

Once the city grows a bit and you have the techs you need, then pick up with something similar to what Autotropx said.

I did build the warrior, it's Monarch with raging barbs. I found another good site a little to the West, it had a food special and lots of hills on a river, so while the capital has churned out settlers and workers (and boats) the other city has been pumping out archers.

I could have built a worker, but there would be nothing for him to do, equally, China doesn't start with Fishing so nothing doing on the boat side of things either. Lastly, there is no way I'm chopping that forest, there aren't any other nearby tiles of forest (it's mostly desert in the immediate area) so they aren't going to grow back once gone and I'm sure I'm going to want the health bonus later given the size this city is going to grow to.

It's actually gone very well so far, and no Judaism either, just some Confucian and Taoist thinking.

The screenshot shows several squares with clams. However, under traditional Jewish teachings, clams are not kosher and so are not supposed to be eaten. It seems to have been intended (and I use the term loosely) as a "joke".
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

Holy Christ! It's just as well you got a good starting location and a decent one for your second city then.
