Given that history has endowed us with such eminently serious 'leaders' such as Caligula, Mussolini, al Hakim the mad Fatimid Caliph, and King George III I think a little humour doesn't go amiss.

I'm most fond of the remarks the 'tired and emotional' British Foreign Secretary, George Brown is alleged to have made at some diplomatic soiree in South America:

Brown was said to have lumbered over to a tall, elegant vision in red, and requested the honour of the next dance, to be told:

"I will not dance with you for three reasons. The first is that you are drunk. The second is that the band is not playing a waltz, but the Peruvian national anthem. The final reason is that I am the Cardinal Archbishop of Montevideo".

It should be true, but ain't, alas !

Labour politician and Foreign Secretary (1966-68) in Harold Wilson's Government. Seen here dancing the 'Frug' (a popular dance at the time) at a party on board the Queen Mary, on the liner's last night in New York. Known for being "tired and emotional" after partying. Created Baron George-Brown in 1970.

I've become used to the silliness in Civ4, but I agree with you completely regarding GalCiv2. One of the alien leaders in that game is named "Tech Romancer". I cringed every time I saw it and I would always make sure that civilization wasn't in any game I played. What was the developer thinking???

I don't read the comments. I filter most of what I read and quickly extract the essential message. My attention is on technologies and resources - how many more my opponent has and whether they are willing to trade them.

One day I'll take the time to properly read the supposed jokes being made, but it won't bother me.

me too. In fact, when some people mention some of the comments, I had no idea the leaders said these things. I usually don't pay attention to the comments.
