I much prefer the modern era of gaming, where you can prove your prowess in direct head to head competition. God, I would pay huge money to play good, stable multiplayer versions of games like Master of Magic or Master of Orion 1. Master of Orion II was the first turn based game I ever played multiplayer back in 1996 (I think, if I am not a year off on my recollection), and I was still playing it right up until Civ 4 came out.
