  • Is it posible to get rid of a religion from a city?

    I'm not sure why you would want to do this, but twice now I've seen AI cities lose a religion. Is it possible to remove them? Does it just happen automatically? or is it just a bug?

    It isn't possible, and I have never seen it.

      As Bkeela says, it's not possible.

              Yes, it's possible:

              Let the AI or barbs capture the city and burn it down, then build a new one in its place... Remember to give it the same name. Then, build all the same improvements, and adjust your culture slider to bring its culture back to the same level it was before. Starve/grow the city as needed to bring it back to the same size. And voila!

              (Just don't let the offending religion spread again - that would be annoying as hell)

                I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

                  You can capture and burn it yourself. Otherwise, like he said.

                      That's one thing that is missing -- religious strife & persecution/'purification':
                      State religion would have minimal-or-zero chance of beling eliminated in a city;
                      non-state religions would have the most, particularly if at war with religion's founder;
                      under Free Religion, each religion would have minimal.

                        I recall reading one of the mods had the feature of removing a religion with a unit. I believe the unit was called an Inquistor or something close to that.

                          Total Realism 2.0 let's you do it. You need a tech and then you build an inquisitor which is the anti-missionary. He has a chance of removing any non-state religions from the city, to deny your opponents the gold/espionage bonus.

                          I think that mod just incorporated this feature from another mod though, and unfortunately I don't know the original mod or I'd give credit where it was due.

                            This sounds like it would function like Slavery pop rush. Lose one pop and gain unhappiness to eliminate the religion.

                              If you go into the worldbuilder city editor you can add or remove religions (Top row of symbols is religions practiced. Bottom row is holy city) but the AI can't use this.
