There was once a key city I wanted right by my border. It was well fortified and both my ally and I were attacking it for several turns. Since it was his unit that eventually got it and since it was so far away from his territory, he decided to raze it. I would have been nice if we could have agreed somehow beforehand that I'll get this city if/when it get captured (and in return I'll give him something). It was so annoying.
    I loved this nit-pick. I mean, c'mon already...

    Civ3: Conquests
    Civ4: Warlords

    How about...
Civ4: Give me something to do other than fight a 6000 year war
for the next expansion pack? How about that, huh? How about...
    Civ4: Real Diplomacy
Wouldn't that be a change of pace?

They are shown while you are giving build orders so I will often forget about them or won't notice them at all if the volume is on low. These are meant to be clicked on so you can see them, but you can't if you are giving build orders. I think these should be shown at the same time as GP. I don't have the "show enemy moves" on because it doesn't give you time see what is happening.
I play with the Minimize Pop-Ups option switched dn. It means that city build orders, possible civics switches and selecting new areas of research wait until the end of your turn and allows you to deal with the non-pop-up messages such as enemy attack warnings, new forests and jungles, border expansions and other messages that appear at that time

I specifically started using this function because of the problem you have. I now prefer the way turns play out; the build orders left til the end of a turn - unless I choose to deal with a specific one earlier.

Note: Your turn will end as soon as it starts if you have no units to move around and the build orders will come up immeadiately.

(The enemy warnings are shown at the same time as GP announcements)
