I agree, we need a better overview over where the different wonders are located

Totally agree... and the thing mentioned about how the space ship was built in Civ 1+2 is one thing that could get me to start playing with space race on again. As it is now, it's just not fun at all

Well... the internet doesn't really need an engineer to be built, as it's not a building, but it could be interesting if the great scientists could speed up production of the internet
This space is empty... or is it?

Oh, and one thing I really miss from Civ is the advisors

Give me more soldiers, noble leader, so that they may sheathe their swords in the beating hearts of our enemies!

          Well, great thread.

I agree that there were balance issues with the Great Workshop and especially tech stealing spies, although I like the space race now just about as much as before.

What I really miss though is the natural disasters from way back in Civ I. "Fire sweeps through Antium" or "Earthquake hits Bombay" (can't quite remember the text for the earthquake). I think there was a volcano eruption disaster and a risk of looting by pirates too. Certain buildings protected cities from each disaster if I recall that right.

There wasn't much to the disasters, but I thought they added a layer of uncertainty without upsetting gameplay balance too much. Certainly they contributed to the realism illusion.

          Cheers,
          Eric

With the spy thing, good strategy would be to hoard a ton of spies and then send them after the AI (who is researching tech like a good lil AI) and then rob 'em blind!

You can find the exact city that a wonder is built. F10 (The statistics screen) Pick Top five cities screen, highlight the wonder and the text shows what city it is in. However, what I'd like is when I conquer a city it tells me I took a wonder. Sometimes I don't notice and don't take advantage of it.

I also liked the beating heart quote, who said it?

I never got this one, just found it by playing all the Advisor movies:

If you get right into the modern age without somehow discovering currency, the pony-tailed stockbroker financial advisor says something like:

"This is You. This is a Clue. Get a clue! DISCOVER CURRENCY!"

I think my favourite one though was the Medieval military advisor, when all was well, just ambling past singing to himself while swigging from a pitcher of wine.

Or the Modern Attitude Advisor (aka Elvis): "You're doing great, King!"

Those were also some of my favorite quotes and movies from CIV II as well. The medievil military advisor was way cool.

Anyway, about an earlier post, even when you look at the wonder list, it still only says the country, unless of course it is in one of your own cities.

One other thing i miss from some of the old civ was the ability of BB's to hurt land units. In ral life the modern BB was one of the most feared weapons we had. the USS New Jersey pulls up and the Marines need a hill hit. 30 seconds latter the hill and the enemy unit occupying the hill are a cloud of dust. Just a thought.

                            Spies weren't balanced in Civ2.

I'd be fine with allowing Spies to plant nukes, but they'd be reaaaaally expensive. So far as stealing techs goes, maybe you could steal one tech from each nation, at most. Or perhaps just steal a number of beakers towards a tech (the way lightbulbing a GP works).

Leonardo's Workshop was unbalanced too - I miss it only because I always got it. Being able to promote units, or upgrade them with cash, is a good compromise.

Those two suggestions, stealing beakers and promoting units with cash are good ones. I wonder if Fireaxis is listening......

I really Leonardo's Workshop too. I once had 15000 gold and it still wasn't enough to upgrade all my infantry into mech infantry.

I also miss Smith's Trading Company. True, there is no building maintenance anymore, but it could be made into another Wall Street except it should be a world wonder.
