I like the nationality as modeled in Civ 4 as is, primarily because it CAN'T revolt (it can flip, though). Having a multinational empire means more management, but not imminent defeat.

Just ask the Austrians. For all the nailbiting over slavic nationalism, it was Napoleon that finally brought them down.

But, one thing I've always wanted: Immigration!

I think this would work well within the current Civ 4 system. Simply modify the precentage of a given nationality in a city population up over time due to, for example, trade routes or tech disparity. This wouldn't bring a powerful empire to its knees (any more than immigration will harm the United States... ooops! ), but it would require modified resource distribution.

However, the REAL value of immigration would be harder to simulate: the infusion of innovative, entrepreneurial individuals into the society. Maybe diversity could trigger the creation of GP points.

"Vorwärts immer, rückwärts nimmer!" - Erich Honecker
"If one has good arms, one will always have good friends." - Machiavelli

For example, my wife is Brazillian because she was, in point of fact, born in Brazil. Me, I'm American. Our kids? Half Brazillian? Nope, American.

It's the difference between where you were born and what you were born.

That's what that silly "Nation Painting" thread was - a way to model race in Civ. No thanks.

The race thing was an after-thought (how many times do I have to repeat myself its only meant for mods and scenarios).
Nation-painting was simply about nations going "poof" after being conquerd and that it's citizens never yearn for freedome again even if they get an opurtunity (example: invasion by a forgein force wich ofers them weapons and indipendencce if they fight their old masters)

I'm not buying BtS until Firaxis impliments the "contiguous cultural border negates colony tax" concept.

Oh, then it looks like "vasselage" is kind of what you want. Subdue the nation but leave it open to rebuild.

If you read the posts on the horible nation-painting thread you must have seen that I said they would asimmilate at different speeds; an America-type society would grab them up in 30 years time a system where minorities are isolated would result in slower asimilation.

I never meant them to be permanent. All I was advocating was a Civ3 nationality system affected by civics+ possible civil wars (for scenarios).

Well maybe, all I wanted to show was that being a bastard minority that rules a vast multie-national empire like tyrants, does not produce happy people willing to defend you (just add "incite revolt" to the spy unit if the city's minorities are being mistreated enough) .
