    Is a desert next to a river not considered to be a floodplain anymore? I have some of them in my city limits, and all I can do on them is to build roads, even though I have Pottery for a cottage. Good changes, bad changes.

      That has been in the game since day one. I play mostly MP games and the Hub, Ring and Wheel map always has a few of those. Quite annoying as they are useless except when a resource pops up on them.

        I hate, hate, HATE the new continents script. On normal-sized worlds, you get exactly two continents that are evenly-spaced from each other at least 80% of the time. There are very rarely any starts where you are on an island by yourself, there are never any 'undiscovered' landmasses like there would be before, etc.

        Very disappointing, guys. Is there any way to get the old continent script back?

          I'm with you on this Kalbear, and I'm very confused. In the Continents.py script the only difference between what is in the 1.52 version and the 1.61 script is one line of code:

          1.52 shows:

          return fractal_world.generatePlotTypes()

          1.61 shows:

          return fractal_world.generatePlotTypes(water_percent=75)

          And that’s the only difference. However running either the 1.52 or 1.61 script on my system patched with 1.61 generates the same kind of landmasses you are describing. Rarely are there any small islands, just two big landmasses evenly spaced with nothing in between.

          I'm baffled as the .py script doesn't seem to be controlling what is coming out, it must be something else they changed but I don't know anything about scripting. Just that the .py code isn't different enough to be generating such a huge difference between the two versions.

          Here is the 1.52 continents.py script:

          But as I mentioned it doesn't seem to generate maps like it once did from 1.52 under 1.61

            Do a diff of CvMapGeneratorUtil.py, if you can. That'll more likely tell you what if anything has changed, or if it's an underlying feature change. My suspicion is that the default value for water percentage changed; right now, it's 78% (which IMO is way too high) with 75% still being on the high end.

            (ETA: nope; even with 65% water, you still get the same pattern - just more land)

            It's so odd; even when there are multiple continents, they're always in the same place as two continents. Very dull overall maps. Sigh.

              I like the new continents script. It actually gives continents. They old one gave very often islands. I don't expect to start alone (exceptions notwithstanding), when I choose Continents.

                I don't mind starting alone; that's not my main complaint. The complaint is that you get exactly two continents, evenly spaced, in the exact same kind of orientation, every time. There aren't any extra little islands to explore/conquer/whatever for late-game expansion. There are always 3 people on one continent, and 4 on the other.

                The old system was a lot more random and unpredictable. Yeah, some times your 'continent' was small, but some times it was this giant thing, and some times there were three or more.

                I just want the option of doing it the old way, is all.

                  What do those smaller intro videos do, exactly? Just a bit performance boost?

                    The old Continents script is now named Fractal...
                    - What's that?
                    - It's a cannon fuse.
                    - What's it for?
                    - It's for my cannon.

                          Excellent. Thanks! I also like the random option that flicks between continents and fractals as well. That's groovy.

                            Some people said that 1.52 saved games are compatible with the new patch, but I'd like to know it for sure, because I'm in the middle of a very interesting game and I'd hate to ruin it by applying the new patch.
                            I watched you fall. I think I pushed.
