Before I say anything else, I just have to get this out....Damn, you Sid Meier! I'm tired as hell because of the "just on more turn" addiction you've given me. It was 1 AM by the time I was able to tear myself away from the game last night. Its gonna be a looooong day at work today.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone on Noble level has had any interesting wars early in the game, because I didn't. As the Americans I shared a continent with the Chinese and never had the cause or reason to attack them. Thats mostly because in the early game I had taken the lions share of space on the continent and since the barbarians seemed to target only me I was caught up combatting them. I had the only horse resources and wouldn't trade it with China, in fear that they might get uppity once they had some knights.
They didn't. But in the mid 1700's I must have done something to piss Elizabeth off since she cancelled our deals and attacked me with no warning. First off I was surprised since the same turn she declared war she landed knights and catapults on my shores, by a weakly defended city. Its no lie to say they appeared out of nowhere. Thats no complaint because it was interesting. I was lucky to have troops nearby that could repel them, though they did destroy the first city.
But other than that so far I've been war free. I'll probably be attacked again I'm sure, (probably by Montezuma since he's "furious" with me.) but none of these guys are on my continent so I probably won't be doing more than defense. I suppose if there were more civs on my continent there would have been a turf war earlier, but the chinese are "friendly" towards me and we share the same religion so I'm counting on them being peaceful. (but not trusting them too much...the reason my coast was lightly defended was because my borders with them had the majority of my army)
The next war will probably be fought with more modern weapons, but if the AI isn't good at massive invasions it won't be too scary I believe. Landing a handful of troops at a time is a minor nuisance in the late game (I'm guessing, really, but thats how it was in CivIII) but I think I can handle it.
I do have a question though. I thought if another civ had the same religion that you founded you could see into their cities. I could be wrong, because I can't. But then maybe I'm doing something wrong.
