Just try to be in the "upper middle" of "soldiers" demographics, and they start to be more polite. But it's not the rule, sometimes AI can be so stupid...

Yes you can, but I find it far easier to do well when I do get aggressive. I find that on Monarch and above (where I rarely win) I can only do well if I take one or more of my rivals out. On Prince and below I can totally turtle and still win easily. Still, I think it is more fun if I do war monger.

An early turn is 20 years. You should find something about about another leader in 20 years' time.
The recommended city sites are (allegedly) biased by resources that have not yet appeared on the map. You can just as easily justify taking advantage of that by wanting to be next to the strange material your advisors haven't yet figured out a use for.

I have not tried playing with randomized personalities if only because I find much more intrigue in the AI personalities than may be healthy. I talk to program code.

Montezuma is a warmongering SOB, but he's also a focused, determined empire builder. He, like many human players, often picks a weak neighbor, singling them out and pursuing this strategy over a long period. He is NOT fickle (like many personalities can be), he is disciplined.

Don't see the relevant thread at the moment.

Someone posted about the recommended city sites being influenced by as yet untappable resources. Whether or not this claim was refuted I don't know.

Incidentally, Montezuma is consistently one of the best AI (along with Hatshepsut) when random personalities is on in my experience. Julius Ceaser doesn't seem to do too well on average but other than that most AI leaders don't fare particularly badly when a random personality is assigned.

Looks like you have Monty pretty well cornered. In a MP game, Aztec would most likely resort to mad chop + archer rush.

So, I have no heart. In six years time, we'll see if I have a brain ...

Won't be pertinent in 6 years because you have already failed to meet the qualifications. Now if you turn into a rebel at 30 then you are something else entirely.

There's a grand total of three forest tiles there, and the archers can't go over there because there is a mountain in the way.

I would like to play as Monty in this situation. Think it will be an interesting challenge. Obviously sailing would be top priority after bronze working.
