I had some off time at work, so I wrote these down.
The first seven are simple things that I think could be patched into the game without much fuss. I wasn't thinking Civ V when I thought of these or even an expansion. Just simple additions.
These deal with the diplomacy aspect of the game. Right now, I don't think there is enough of it.
1. Border Disputes: I brought this up in a separate thread and got a decent response from the fans. In that thread I suggested that borders would become set after awhile, but for simplicity sake, a tile would not be considred fully owned by any particular civ until it has a 75% stake in it. Disputed borders could be show as checkered or striped with the two disputing countries colors. Disputed borders would have a large negative effect on diplomatic relations often leading to war and the war will not end until one country agrees to give up its vested interest in the tiles.
2. Nuclear Weapons: I have yet to build them, use them or have them used on me in game. Seems like a waste to me. usually, the UN prohibits their use and they never get built. My idea would be simple. Even if the UN prohibits their use, countries should still be allowed to build them, but with drastic negative diplomatic drawbacks. This would be even more drastic if they are ever used. I pulled this idea from the newspaper with Iran and the UN knocking heads.
3. Espianage: It says that using spies could lead to war, but I haven't seen it. This should be a big diplomatic boo boo id one of your spies gets caught on foreign soil.
4. Military Power: I think the AI takes your military power into account when it decides to war with you. I'd like to see this in the diplomacy screen.
"We fear your mighty armies" or "Your puny armed forces are no match for us."
5. Spreading Religion: Sending missionaries to spread religion in foreign cites should be frowned upon by the other civs and it should show on the diplomatic screen.
"You are spreading your pagan beliefs in my land!"
6. Cultural Difference: When your culture outweighs another culture drasticly, this should lead to jealousy and maybe war?
7. Lend/Lease: There should be an option with each unit to place it in a "pool". When you click on the option, the unit dissapears off the map and is up for grabs. Other nations could then offer you a trade for the units. Or you could "gift" them to another civ. Selling or gifting arms to one civ would be considered bad by the enemies of that civ. I do this anywa, whenever a small civ gets picked on by another. I send transports of modern tanks over to help the underdog. This idea would just make it easier and add a diplomatic element to it.
The next one I know has been brought up many times. Here's my take.
8. Rebellion: I have a simple idea for this. It would only be availble when playing games where not all civs are being used. The only time a rebellion is possible, is when a city other than your capital has more culture. At this point, the chance of rebellion increases each turn until either the capital gets more culture or you move the palace to the new city. If a rebellion occurs, the new city becomes the capital of a new AI civ. Other cities in close proximity to the rebelling city will have a chance to flip too, but the farther away from the rebelling city, the less of a chance they will flip.
The last two are strictly "candy" I just think they would be cool. They involve a lot more work, though, so probably for an expansion.
9. Return of the Palace! I know, most of you hate the palace. It was kind of dumb. Here's how to make it better and useful. Instead of just the Palace, have the screen display the mainstreet in your capital with your palace at the end. Behind the palce, you would see any wonders you have built in that city. On the corner, you would have a man and woman, dressed in clothes of the particular age you are in. If you have flight, a plane could be flying by. If you have combustion, cars would drive by. On another corner, a newsboy holds a paper that has random headlines generated by game events. There's just so much that could be done with this, and there are so many ways, you can make it so that information is garnered from it. It would be fun and informative to view the page.
10. Leader End Movies. It's kind of dull wiping out a civ. There's nothing but a simple text message that marks the event. I think it would be cool to see a movie of each leader's demise. Washington surrenders his sword to you. Napoleon is banished to Elba Island. Ghengis goes out fighting. Louis IVX loses his head. Tokugawa commits hare kari etc. It would surely be more satisfying to wipe these guys out.
OK, thats my 10. Love to read your comments good or bad.
