Reloading is the only thing that helps.

If you have at least a Gig og memory, turn your virtual memory off, it helps quite alot too.
this is very bad advice. 1st, a gig is not even enough to ever turn virtual mem off. 2nd, you have no idea what the have running on their comp.

      ???

While you are right in saying that I have no idea what others have running, playing a modern game with a dozen of other programs at the same is never really going to work now is it.
Secondly, from experience I can say that a Gig is enough for normal play ( and I usually play large maps).

The thing with Windows is that is just loves it's page file and will dump as much as it can onto it, instead of using your physical memory. This in itself isn't much of a problem and probably a good design concept, however it's not the best thing for your performance (when you want it).

Besides, all help/advice anyone gives here, is "as is" and to be taken at one's own risk (also notice the fact that I did say "at least").

I discovered a long time ago that many programs won't even run with Virtual Memory turned off. I certainly wouldn't recommend that option.

Sorry to possibly hijack a quality thread but... I have got to compliment you on that avatar. Fantastic.

The one that I know of is photoshop7. Actually it does work but asks for confirmation each time you start it up.

I tried it once years ago, and more than half of my games/programs wouldn't run anymore. I don't remember now which ones, it was awhile back. It's definitely not a recommended action as far as I'm concerned.

This works for me, my keyboard has the 'windows' key(does the same thing). I just go into windows, wait a second or two and go back into the game.

Usualy fixes the problems for a few more turns. But seems to work the same as if I reboot and reload the game.

My problem is not so much lagging....it its broken graphics in late to end game.

The broken Graphics show up more on Huge maps with lots of Islands or Acapelago type terrain.
