just one question though why do they need all that padding ? is it to compensate for down there ?

Crazy Crazy americans sex everywhere but if a tiny smidgin gets some were it can be seen then all the religous nutters come crawling out to compete in Coverup. Can't give into our animal urges appart from voilence now can we ?
No violence is pretty much the bomb, (pardon awful pun ,) over here. I wanted to watch "Sands of Iwo Jima" and a couple Clint Eastwood cop flicks tonight to get ready for the game, but I need to play some "always war" Civ and clean my pistol collection instead.

Superbowl, of course. I can play Civ any time.

If I could only play Civ for four hours one day a year, but watch NFL 24/7, then I'd see it the other way around.

Speak for yourself, I like American football as well Not nearly as much as real football of course, but it's probably the most strategic sport after chess. *troll mode* And it's of course always funny to see a bunch of fat dumb Americans trying to be athletic */troll*

So yeah, I'll be watching the Superbowl, as usual. But I'll be modding Civ at the same time, since American football is also the sport with the most interruptions of any sport, which is annoying as hell. I could probably get a whole game of civ in in the time the game is dead

That was a great news report a few days ago, probably broadcast worldwide, that American footballers get the $18 million contracts because their life expectancy isn't much past 40 with the way that gametime weights have blossomed in recent years.

Of course my doctor wants me to get down to around 325 or so (sorry, no metric conversion available.) Excuse me a minute, that chip dip was too good to wait till tomorrow, gotta throw together another gallon and pick up an extra keg.

That's the point, knowing how much you watch football I can try to pretend you don't watch the American version .

Real football > Rugby > Gaelic football > Australian football > Any other type of football > American football

American football is for pussies - look at all that padding! I'd like to see them play AFL...
"You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.
Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess."

                147.42 or so.

As for the OP, I am not sure. I might get a chance to watch the Super Bowl, but I also have to complete a few programs for my advanced programming class.

I might have an opportunity to play Civ IV in the morning, after work, and after a quick nap. I get off at 0600 CST (1200 GMT).

In regards to another poster, though the Super Bowl is big, at least they don't claim to be the "World Series."

Just to throw some fuel on the fire .....

Over 800 million people watched the super Bowl last year. USA population is something close to 265 million.

It's so they don't kill themselves. No, I'm serious. Theodore Roosevelt threatened to ban the game if they didn't make it safer due to a rash of player deaths in the early 1900s. That's where padding started.

Nowadays it is even more needed. You have 250 lbs guys who can run 40 yards in 4.5 seconds, coming to hit you as hard as they can and that's not pretty without padding.

Say what?! The players who get the $18 million a year contracts are the Quarterbacks who weigh 200 lbs. The linemen, who are the ones over 300 lbs don't get close to that (the best ones get around $7-8 million a year).

Shoddy reporting by your 'news report'

And the english Premier League has a weekly TV audience of some 550 million people in 163 countries, so what´s your point?

The game will be shown in France. Midnight to 4 am though. So I don't know if that qualifies France as a market ;-)

Some will watch out of curiosity. But that may well be the only game they will see in years.

Compared to other mainstream sports (football and rugby), american football does have too many interruptions: 4 hours for just 60 minutes of clock play (and much less of real play) - too boring for most of the audience.

As for myself, it will be neither civ or superbowl, but sleep.

I'll catch the game later, through, cough, alternate broadcast means ;-) (I won't tape the french broadcast, as I can't stand french commentary on US events, I need the real thing).

Seems to me that American Football IS a TBS game!
