Well even though the "wonder" was built by the Khmer I would deffinately put the Thai/Siamese in first. They do deserve it. I have debated this at length over at Civ fanatics under the name Pratputajao.

Actually there are three in SE asia that do desrve to be in - Khmer, Siamese, Vietnamese. You will never see this happen though. Personally, I see any of those Civs as being more deserving than Another Native tribe from the Americas ( Aztecs already being in the game).

But for me The Thai above other SE asian civs. I have studied the histories of all SE asian Civs. ( also been to the region many times) and Siam has such an intersting past (and present) that I put it slightly ahead of the others. But not by that much. I would encourage anyone to read the history of the region before immediatly thinking 'no way'

However I would be happy with any representation for Indochina

I'd like to see a balance of civs in the expansion (ie. balanced between chronology & geography).

Nevertheless, I'd count my blessings if we got:

1 Medieval European Faction
1 SE Asian Faction
1 African Faction
1 Ancient Near Eastern Faction
1 Medieval Near Eastern Faction
1 East Asian Faction
1 Ancient European Faction
1 Mesoamerican Faction

As it stands, I anticipate an expansion heavy on European factions -- while I appreciate new factions, and while I am European, we don't need all European factions. Civ selection should be based on merit rather than familiarity.

I'd shout for joy if the expansion only came with the Babylonian civ.

The problem is when talking about 'civilizations' is we only know the history of civilizations by writings and artifacts.

The olmecs are a good example. We know they existed. We have some good guesses about when. But we know very little about their culture other than that. Why? because nothing was written about them.


Most of our history comes from European texts (going back to the time of the Romans). The Romans tried to utterly destroy some civs and leave no record they ever existed.

The arab civilization during the time of the European middle ages kept much history alive and safely away from the Christian church.

What we know of the American civs comes from European historys. (I am considering the early Americans as European)

East Asia had a culture all to itself largly seperate from Europe.



BUT. This game starts at 4000bc. What if Carthage had won the punic wars? What if Isreal had followed God and became a superpower stationed in Jerusalem? What if Vienna had fallen to the Turks? What if Kublia Khan had conquered Japan? What if the Cherokee had discovered gunpowder? What if (pick random small civilization) had (pick great work)

We are in control of what goes on. Put LOTS of civs in there and let us decide if they can rule the world.

I'd love to see lots of civs. I don't think it'll happen though. Maybe in Sid Meier's Civilization 10.
