Yeah Medieval II: Total War! My dreams have come true. But anyway, I better get the thread back on topic to Expansion Civs before we get locked.

Um... any idea on when the expansion will even be announced?

As I've said numberous times before(and I don't get tired of it): Vikings or Norse, I'm all for it, but if I see one more Civ game with "Scandinavians"... Blah!

Not to start up the age-old argument, but I really prefer the term "Norsemen" over "Vikings," at least when referring to the civilization. "Viking" basically refers only to Norse sea raiders. Albeit both terms are better than the politically correct and ambivalent "Scandinavians." I don't think I've ever met or even heard of somebody who thinks of themselves as a "Scandinavian," and I've had friends from Norway, Denmark, Sweden AND Finland (but not Iceland).

No, not a Viking. I just said I prefered the term "Norsemen." My Norwegian friends acknowledge themselves as the modern descendants of Norsemen (even learning Old Norse in college).

No, "Viking" does refer to the entire civilization. There´s definite connection between Norse, Danish and Swedish vikings regarding art, litterature and culture. The vikings were the dominant culture of Scandinavia for several hundred years. The sea rading was only one part of the viking culture. Thus "Vikings" is the correct term for describing the civilization residing in Scandinavia between 793 AD and 1050 AD.

The fact that the people residing in Scandinavia didn´t call themselves "vikings" is of no importance. It was not until the introduction of nationalism that people started to consider themselves "swedish", "german" or "american".

Zoid, you are wrong. More people use or are familiar with "Viking" than "Norse", but "Norse" is the proper name of the civilization. "Vikings" are the raiders.

You should read the sagas. You'll notice that "Viking" is pretty much synonymous with "pirate".

Indeed, Gangerolf is right. He should know, Gangerolf himself was one of them.
