    Universal Sufferage, baby!

It rocks. I used to always play Fin and then chop rush the pyramids so I'd get a huge early lead in being able to switch to US and make use of all those towns and cash.

Hell, you can buy WONDERS in this game. If you've got 7000 gold and are making 145 per turn, you should be buying every single world and national wonder available.

Not to mention you can start expanding like a crazy person because you can immediately build up all those new cities and make them productive much faster.

Sure, I use libraries for culture in the frontier cities too, but since theaters (50 hammers) are so much cheaper and give more culture, I put them in first and often assign an artist to expand the borders of captured cities. A library (90 hammers) usually comes if there looks like some promise for research there, but a university (200 hammers) is so expensive to get just another 25% (additive not multiplicative) of a rather small amount, is usually not worth it, so my comment about paying attention to the top producers of about 80% of the research, gold, and production. Theater, barracks, granary, then start building a military unit. Maybe if it gets to be a decent size city, make a library, then courthouse, especially if you're organized.

Not every city gets to have everything. I'm a relentless builder, so I have to tear myself way from building more buildings and build units to defend myself or to fuel the war machine. I think we've all learned the hard way that when you just build buildings, the AI senses weakness (they can read the power chart too) and will pay a visit to take your cute civilization away from you.

How do you hurry wonders with gold? I assume you mean more than just using the % sliders.

This is my first Civ game so I am still learning all the little tricks.

Democracy allows the Universal Suffrage civic which allows rush building with gold. One of the wonders (Kremlin allowed by communism) reduces the cost of rush building by 50%.

Yep, forgot to mention the Kremlin. It rocks. It's a long way to communism, but it works out because by the time you get there, you're sure to be pulling in gold hand over fist, and it's really nice to be able to buy late wonders for 3000 or so gold.

Agreed. I put off fiber optics until after the first couple future techs because of the Kremlin (need to rush buy the standard improvements in late-game conquest cities).

I'll have to try that. Communism (state property) does seem to be a key tech for the warmonger in the end game. Rush building theater's and other basic improvements for the front line cities is a great idea if they're half price.
