The Norse were far more influential than various Goths.
That's pretty much my thoughts on the subject. I would see it as being part of the same people and Civ. I can certainly understand the view that would see the Normans and what have you as a different group though.

Sumerians would be an interesting choice, since they were one of the first.

I also like the suggestion of the Polynesians, they spread far and were very influential. I don't know what you could do to differentiate them that wouldn't make them extremely unbalanced on some maps...you'd have to give them early ocean travel to give them their unique flavor, and Polynesians would win every game on a Terra map, or those with unpopulate/underpopulated continents, or archipelago maps...

May I add, saying the Normans became "Frechified" as if that speaks low of them is kind of silly, seeing as how during the 1600s and 1700s, most nobles in Europe became "Frechified" as France was the hight of culture.

Russia, in particular after Peter the Great, were very "French" and you had nobles that could speak fluent French, but didn't know a word of Russian.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

the polynesian Ubuer Unit i nominate would be a faster caravel but maybe lower strength. The outrigger or catamaran boat it would have a capcity of 1 with norestrictions and the ability to retreat.

in game it would probabLY have these stats
                move: 4
                str : 2
20 percent chance of retreat fom combat
abilty to enter forgein territory without declaring war

would this unbalance the game too much?

remember you would need 2 just to transport settler and defensive unit

Wow this thread has been totally threadjacked. Now it is just another generic 'Expansion suggestions' thread. And it started with such promise...
"You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.
Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess."

When has historical relevance been a reason for any of the civs in the cov series?

                      Egypt
Stopped beeing relevant some 2-3000 years ago and before that they controled what? 2-3 times the area of modern Egypt. Ok they have had a tremendous cutural impact on the European civilizations that followed.

                      USA (called America in Civ)
Should not come into play untill sometime arround the 16th century. They are actually a offshot of the British, witch are an offshot of the Norman, again beeing and offshot of the Norse.

The only real exceptions are the Chinise, India and the Jews, they were there 3-4000 years ago and they are here now, and they most likely will be there till the end of the world.

Of these only the Chinise and India are in the game.

So now to the civs I'd like to see:
                      The Norse or Vikings

                      The Jews or Israelies
                      Leaders:
                      King David - Agressive, Creative
                      King Salomon - Philosopical, Inustrious

                      The Danes
                      Margrete I - Agressive, Financial
                      Christian IV - Industrious, Agressive

I repeat: this is not a serious suggestion thread. If you want one, try http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=147442

I think they should include the English, probably with Queen Victoria or Elizabeth, maybe both. There aren't many female leaders so it would be a chance to redress the balance I'd say.

I'll assume you're not being serious.
