I just upgraded about 20 sailing vessels to destroyers, transports and battleships in my OCC game. A few turns later Monty tried to invade with with galleons. His poor troops never made it home.

Subs are the only other naval unit that can carry an explorer/spy/etc and sail through closed borders, right? If you upgrade to frigate/destroyer, you lose that.

I don't think subs can carry units, can they? They can go through borders, though.
IMO, the Caravel should be expanded to an entire sea explorer/scout line. Perhaps make the Galley into a move 3 vessel/can't attack and make a Trireme with the old stats of the Galley, for starters. Eh. I do like the idea of the Caravel.

Subs can carry special units just like the caravel.
