I stand corrected. It is a phenomenal game.
Does anybody here know someone who needs to buy a copy in good condition?
I wasn't trying to say you were wrong, I just have a different opinion.

Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy. We've got both kinds
You're correct. Thing is, have you ever seen pandering to a die-hard computer game fanbase actually do anything good?
Any game out there, the more you listen to the die-hard fans, the weaker the game is for everyone else. Especially given the increasing mainstreaming of gaming.
I disagree, obviously. "Pandering" to the die hards has produced, IMO, a very good game. In fact, I feel like there was some unecessary "pandering" to the masses, resulting in some of the "RTSish" features, and the graphics (which I hate).
I'm sure you will find some other game you will enjoy.

Well it's a damn sight better than Civ3's graphics .

It seems most people do. It's one of those crazy personal preferences things.
Too cartoonish. Not "epic" feeling. A tad cluttered.
All things considered, it's a rather minor complaint.

I agree. The graphics lack the epic feeling, of sweeping landscapes dwarving tiny little units and cities - I don't like the single isolated mountains and the "losing the forests for the [huge] trees." That, and the silly RTS stuff like right click to move and the info bar across the bottom and the little buttons around the minimap are things I'd have preferred to do without.
But you're right, it's a minor complaint.

I see your Bah! and I raise you a PFFT! It's a style thing - clearly CivIV's graphics are superior in detail to CivIII's, because the game is much newer & more advanced. If, however, CivIV had been made with CivIII style graphics, updated to the current standard of quality, I think the game would look better.
CIV is not Pirates! Pirates! can look cartoonish. CIV needs to carry a little more gravitas (IMHO, of course).
I feel like there was some unecessary "pandering" to the masses
Contradiction in terms.
I'm sure you will find some other game you will enjoy.
Oh, I enjoy the game just fine. I'll likely enjoy Civ5+, because by that time the mainstream gamer will so outnumber the diehards that it would be foolish not to look at what they want first and foremost. It's an inevitability.
EDIT: Am I understanding you right that you're arguing against Civ4's use of 3D? Its a standard, now.
As long as they focus on the gameplay, and seek to make that gameplay balanced and fun, we'll all enjoy it.

edit: I'm not arguing against its use of 3D. Honestly, graphics don't really matter much to me, so long as important info is relayed to me in a clear, clean manner. I was taking (minor) issue with the style of the graphics. They could be 3D, but look vastly different.
