  • Effect of Industrious on Rush Buys

Is there any? You get 100% hammer production for building wonders if you're IND. And instead of reducing the actual cost of the wonder, the trait doubles the production of the city while it's building a wonder.. Correct?

So when you are buying wonders, how does that industrious trait effect the cost, if any? Are the "hammers to completion" and the cost per hammer still the same because the city is running at +100% of the trait?

    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure industrious doesn't decrease the cost if you mean to gold-rush the wonder.

      Thanks..

      Anybody else know for sure?

If the cost is determined by the amount of turns it will take to complete the wonder under your current production status, then industrious would effect rush buys.

If cost is simply a price per hammer for the uncompleted portion, then it wouldn't matter.

It would also mean that it would be foolish to then rush buy any building (wonder or otherwise) that your leader trait has provided a discount on. Because you are paying full price for something you should be getting a discount on.

I THINK that all inate trait bonuses work for rushbuy, industrious makes your wonder rushbuys go 50% further and forges cost half pop to poprush.
However other bonuses (like forge, factory, stone etc) don't make rushbuys go further.

Industrious doubles your production for wonders - it doesn't halve their cost.

I know for sure that it's cheaper to poprush the +100% builds (granary, lighthouse, courthouse etc) and there's no reason to believe that the rush behaivour doesn't extend to both the wonder build bonus and rushing with gold.

No, because Industrious gives a percentage bonus for your production ( hammers ) that happens only for wonder building. it has nothing to do with gold.

Yup. I was pretty surprised when I found out.

                      They're cheap, too.

Buying wonders is the best reason for Universal Sufferage, especially when going for a cultural victory.

Gekko: the question that I'm asking and the point that Blake is making is that the IND trait works by exactly the same mechanic as any of the other 100% builds, such as granary, courthouse etc.. the mechanic is the same. They all give temporary production boosts while building those items.. not discounts.

Because the mechanic is the same (city production "increased" while working on their special building), if pop rushing receives the benefit for building a granary, then gold rushing should also receive the benefit for wonder building.

Anybody know a good way to test or find out?

I just checked this in a game. I was ORG, building a courhouse. My city had a population of 4, and 8 hammers from workers. With 48 hammers in the box (out of 120), I was not allowed to poprush. Next turn, I had 64 hammers in the box (16 hammers per turn, double my actual output), and I was allowed to poprush. So the bonus doesn't cut the size of the box in half, but instead doubles the production hammers you put into the box.

Is it just me, or does the ability to buy wonders make the Pyramids insanely powerfull?

The pyramids are insanely powerful, but universal suffrage is only effective if your economy can generate a strong surplus of cash, which is a challenge in the early to mid game. I find that when I get the pyramids I will usually use representation for the happiness and science bonuses until I get my economy really rolling with banking and economics.
