You know what a DL is and protest that you aren't one. CLEARLY you are the double login of someone who's familiar with these forums.

      Believe me, he isn't.

Yeah, Occasionally I log in this dude - he's been at 'poly for over two years, has more than 3000 posts, and regularily interacts with people on the Civ 4 forums.
I forget what his name is, starts with an E.

I duel-wield both trout and e-clubs with astonishing effectiveness. I am a master of Trolling and Flaming arts.

The only one of those players I've even heard of is E_T, but I don't know anything about him.

By "Not you", do you mean "Unimportant so he can be ignored", or "Stupid so he should be trolled"?
EDIT: or "Having a nonzero amount of social skills"?

Nope. He is not you, only that. If you are a DL, you're not my friend E_T.

Btw, E_T definitely has a nonzero amount of social skills, but so you do.

In fact, as you were spamming all over the forum, you are here to troll. And you are doing pretty well. So, you DO have social skills… In a strange and non conventional way.

Edited: You're not a DL, IMO.

While I have knowledge and understanding about emotional and social matters, this doesn't mean I have social skills.
It's one thing to know the right thing to do, and another thing to do it.
I do have feelings. These feelings drive me, and they drive me to disrespect and hate a variety of people.
Hating people isn't what I'd class as having social skills, unless the people I interact with aren't like the Mahabodi of Ignorance.

This may cause problems in the Demogame, as I will zealously defend my right to be a Megalomaniacal Macavellian 'Win über alles' player.
This may be due to my lack of empathy or understanding,
but if you play the game to have fun and not get too serious, can't you ignore the serious dude who's enjoying planning both the game and the people?
If me being hardcore prevents you from having fun because you empathically/reactively become serious and can no longer be carefree about the game, then that would be your problem.
Directly insulting people - hey, I directly disrespect people and present them with facts. If you're a slow as heck turnplayer, or a casual newbie, I will call you as such. It is you that finds the facts insulting.

IMHO Both fall under the principle of expressing one's feelings.
While I'm okay with situations where everyone can express feelings, or nobody can express feelings, if there's a situation where one set of people can express feelings and I cannot, I will proceed to get e-medieval on your asses.

Being allowed to express positive feelings while not expressing negative feelings is a social norm, and one with 'social skills' would respect it. In my opinion, that norm can go **** itself. My negative feelings are stronger than my positive, and are amplified when I can't express them.

IMO, Social Norms these days don't benefit anyone, and only serve to annoy some people. I thusly ignore them.
I don't care for any 'emotions' that are just a result of agreeing with everybody around you. I doubt there is anyone who seriously cares about me being macavellian, but for the sake of "The Spirit of the Game" we're encouraged to throw tea parties in celebration of how we can destroy what each-other have worked for over the past 6 months and still be best buddies.
                            ...
                            No.
If people pour their heart into the game, there will be tensions - and for people that don't take it so seriously, there won't be.
People don't become amiable just because nobody around them is complaining, they just ignore whatever complaints they may have.
Enforcing a "Code of Good Sportsmanship" means crap.
The Demo Game may seem happy by banning the annoyed comments, but that's an illusion. People will be frustrated, calculating, anxious, hurt and enraged at times, and no "Code of Behaviour" is going to change that.

People seem so eager to defend the "Must not say naughty or offensive things" stance that they forget the whole purpose of such a stance is to avoid genuinely angering people, and that by getting frustrated about defending their code all they're doing is making their own problems worse.

You can't "Make the game fun" with moderators, unless they also tell lots of jokes and thereby act as entertainers.
All you can do is hide the not-fun parts, but people who are having fun will be having fun regardless - and since I'll be having fun too if I can merrily spam my "I Pwnz j00" threads, then just letting people have fun how they want is the best way to have fun from a game.
If people are frustrated because my "I demand you give me more cute puppy pictures!" comments might annoy someone, then they should either get the rod out of their butts, or accept that a game where comments will be spamming all over the place of varying emotions probably isn't a place for them.

You can't Ruin someone's Fun in the demo game. You build a civ, conduct diplomacy, go to war, and win or lose. If they get agitated by you winning diplomacy or war, they weren't having fun in the first place - and if they're having fun in the first place, then their fun isn't ruined.

If you enjoy being a spam plush chaos teddy of trolling mischief, do so - because the only people who you will annoy are the prudes who shouldn't be playing a Fun, Social game in the first place.

Yes. I know. It's all about fun. Nobody wants to ruin your fun, I think. And, IMHO, people *is* the best part of any Demo Game. See? You have fun trolling people. I have fun interacting with people in, let’s say, other ways. We agree on that: people are the real thing. And I can tolerate almost everything, with a smile in my lips...
But I have serious concerns about how other people will manage your sense of humor.
I mean, if you want to be

who am I to stop you? It’s fun, and we all love fun! But some folks here are not as patient as I am, and they may think that it’s not funny at all… So, be prepared to be trolled back. I know you are.

And, you’ll have to agree, your (legitimate, I know ) behavior as a “free-minded” person can harm the game and the diplomacy. Every team needs a resident troll, every forum, but all of them have to respect the local “velocity limits”.

I'm not seriously worried about that, it’s just a scenario.

Edited: Actually, this discussion belongs to the DemoGame thread. Here, you can troll as hard as you can, including me (wel, it's just my opinion), it's not my business...
